Applying to a College within UCSD
Rating: 3.8/5 (23 ratings)
IntroductionWhen you apply to UCSD you rank the 6 colleges here in order of which one you like the most. There’s Revelle, Muir, Warren, Marhall, Eleanor Roosevelt College, and Six College.
Campus Life and Social Life6 colleges on campus, Revelle, Muir, Marshall, Eleanor Roosevelt, Six, and Warren. If you’re interested in science, biochemistry, or going to pre-med possibly Revelle’s pretty much the decision for you. You really want to go there. Thurgoood Marshall and Muir are pretty out there. You can pretty much be any major you want, but probably not a science major. Eleanor Roosevelt is for people who want to be writers or poly sci majors. And then Warren is for engineers and 6 college is for like the arts and stuff. Beginning of third quarter you’re first year, you’re allowed to apply to move out of your college. It’s kind of hard to move from the harder colleges to the easier colleges. When you apply, if you apply to the harder colleges, you’ll probably have a better chance of getting in. Whereas if you apply to Revelle or Muir or Thurgood Marshall you might not have as good a chance.

AcademicsYou can be any major right now and take whatever classes you want because you have a lot of general ed requirements. A lot of times it’s nicer to get those down freshman year. So you can take a variety of classes and decide which one you like the best. Especially if you come in not knowing what you want to do. I kind of like the bigger classroom situations just because if you want help you can go to your professor’s office hours and go ask him for help. Otherwise you just go and you listen and you take notes and it’s really easy. A lot of professors on campus are very technologically advanced and they can make PowerPoint presentations and like keep you going throughout the lecture. It’s really hard to stay on top of all of your classes in a quarter system so you have to be really studios about it and organize your time really well. Compared to semester systems I think it’s a lot harder.
Student BodyI’ve been to Tijuana quite a few times. It’s a really good system, I mean they have the buses that come to pick you up and they drop you off down there and it’s very safe you just have to be smart about it. Don’t get completely drunk when you’re down there. It’s a good time if you enjoy dancing and drinking and just meeting new people. Other than that, we don’t have a frat row, but we do have fraternities and sororities that do have parties off campus. And as long as you find people with cars and make friends with people with cars, it’s a lot easier to get around.
In Closing...Since the beach really isn’t walking distance, it’s nice to have a car and you can take the bus, but definitely nicer to have a car.
