UCF in general

Rating: 3/5 (32 ratings)
Introduction
The biggest piece of advice I could say to someone considering UCF is that if they aren't into large amounts of people, they need to get used to it. UCF, unlike many smaller universities, UCF is located in a large city; not a small college town where you can forego the car and bike it or walk everywhere. Also, UCF is a very large campus with a large student body to match. It's easy to get lost and feel alone at first, but I seem to find that if you involve yourself in school functions and activities (sports, etc), you meet a lot of quality people and it's easier to stay afloat. Orlando is a fun city and it's an awesome atmosphere. I grew up here and, while I wanted to go somewhere far away at first, I realized that this is where I needed to be. Around (mostly) good people at a good school.

Campus Life and Social Life
I don't live on campus, so I really don't know the social lives of those that do really.. I do know that the various campus services offer lots of stuff to keep students occupied and involved. There are parties, seminars, sports teams (whether you're on an N.C.A.A. team or if it's just club or intramural), an awesome recreation and wellness center, and many more activities. New ones daily, actually. During the weekends there are parties and such and just a lot of good times with friends. The worse social/campus life aspects are probably if you don't have a car. Campus can get kind of dead on the weekends and it's hard to get around this giant city without a mode of transportation.
Academics
The academic area is vastly improving. UCF is starting to get noticed for it's academic merits as well as whatever else it's known for. We have an awesome engineering department as well as our health and public affairs college and our hospitality department (Rosen) is, as I hear, absolutely wonderful. As with all professors, some are good and some aren't (it's all up to the individual to decide that). Workloads don't seem to be too strenuous or overbearing, but they make sure you know your stuff.

Student Body
Skateboarding seems to be a pretty big thing right now at UCF. Longboards in particular. We have a lot of beautiful people making up the student body. A lot of them are into working out or going out and having a good time (clubs, the beach, etc) and just as many are into reading and expanding their minds. Surprisingly, while there are a lot of students from out of state, we have a lot of kids that come from throughout Florida to attend school here.

In Closing...
UCF is an awesome university and it really celebrates the diversity of the student and honestly wants to see everyone succeed. There are amazing faculty and staff that put in extra hours for their students to achieve this. The campus is beautiful and we are rapidly growing to accomodate our numbers and so we can offer existing and future students even more services than the already overabundance of them. :)
