snowboarding rules
IntroductionI came from a really big high school of about 4,000 so coming to CU was not overwhelming at all because I was very used to big classes and a lot of people walking around.
I love walking on The Hill, finding a party. It’s just very open, it’s just very fun. The Hill is pretty much right across from campus. It’s within walking distance for anybody in the dorms. It has a lot of great places to eat and a lot of great places to party as well.
It’s very common to wear pyjamas to class actually and flip flops. It’s very laid back and casual. There’s a lot of hippies, or hippie-type people, which I think is very relaxing and just kind of adds to the whole Boulder scene. I actually find people very attractive on campus because there are various groups of people. A lot of people I know come from Southern California and from all over the United States.
I would like to say it’s pretty diverse, but I know that we don’t have very many ethnic minorities. I would say that they account for probably less than 10%. There’s usually just White Americans here.
Campus Life and Social LifeI live in Willville, which is an off-campus dorm. So I get to take the Buff Bus to school. It is nice because it does run every couple of minutes. But if you’re on-campus, usually people take bikes, or a long board or skateboard to class.
Even though it’s off-campus, my dorm I think is just the coolest thing. Since we are off campus, we kind of have a community of people who understand what it’s like to live off campus. Coming to school on the Buff Bus. It’s just kind of like our own little community. It’s really nice.
RA’s are pretty cool about drinking just as long as everybody’s safe. Once anybody’s safety gets in the way, then they will take measures to prevent that from happening.
Absolutely not, no sororities. I don’t think I could live in a house full of 50 girls. I’m just not that type of person. I don’t think I run into too many people who actually are in the Greek life.
I really like to snowboard during the snow season. I actually don’t have any time for intramurals. I would do swimming but their schedule conflicts with my schedule. I have not been to any of the football games. I don’t know why. Everybody goes and I think I’m the only person on campus who has never gone to one. I’ve been to a lacrosse game though. It’s not hard at all to get anybody to go snowboarding with you. Because there’s people that go up on the weekends all the times so you can just catch a ride with them. Or there’s a bus that runs up every weekend as well.

AcademicsThe first week of school the dorm food was not bad at all. But once you have it everyday 3 times a day for however many weeks if you don’t go home to a home cooked meal, dorm food gets really disgusting. It just gets really old and repetitive, but it’s not bad at all because there are many choices but it just gets old after awhile. I think they require a vegetarian option at all CU cafeterias. So if you’re a vegetarian, it won’t be a problem at all. Off-campus food is actually really easy to find. We have The Hill and Pearl Street and a lot of places deliver as well. They always have very good student discounts or student plans of some sort.
Student BodyI am a Business Accounting major. And I’m currently enrolled in the business school. My classes kind of vary on how big they are. We do have some lectures with over 700 students and some classes are very small, especially if you go to a recitation, it’s very small, 20 students, so you get both ends of the spectrum. It’s a lot easier to skip classes when they are larger because they don’t take attendance. But I try not to skip class because it just does not work out very well for me.
In Closing...I actually have had some really great professors here. But then again, I have taken some online courses where there’s no professor even present because it is all online work. It’s a little harder to get in touch with them, but then again, you do have TA’s that you can go see and they help out with everything. Kieshor Calkani is an economics professor. He’s just the funniest man you will ever meet.
