Great Experiences

Rating: 5/5 (14 ratings)
Introduction
I choose to attend the University of Connecticut because the location is in between Boston and New York City, its a small town, but a large school setting that will keep you occupied. The only person I wouldn't recommend this to is for those wanting an urban setting, that isn't Uconn.

Campus Life and Social Life
Sports are a big deal on campus because of our Division 1 football and basketball teams winning national championships. There are numerous clubs to fit your interests such as acapella singing gropus, political student groups, club sports, or jus general interests. Always something to do on the Uconn campus even if partying isn't for you.
Academics
Academics are important on campus as expected. Since the school started out with agriculture; animal science and other agri programs are strong. Other departments such as political science, history, english, and other science related majors are strong.

Professors are always helpful especially in my field of political science; most have years of experience within the branches of government to help you in your studies such as working for the State Department, etc.

The workload varies per class and all depends on the department and whether it is an intro or advanced level course. Some courses require many hours of work per day.

Student Body
The student body at the University of Connecticut is very diverse; not only racially but religious affiliations and ideology. Social interaction is an important part of college life and it shouldn't be a problem for anyone to find their niche with over 16,000 undergrads on campus. I recommend anyone join clubs because especially for a freshman it may be intense to feel like your starting over again; the participation in many activities is great. However, general clubs don't get the same funding and/ or recognition as the sports teams because its a profitable venue for the school and has a good following among those at Uconn and in the state of Connecticut as well as nationally.

In Closing...
Uconn is a great school and good value. Its growing reputation in the nation as a good academic institution makes Uconn strong in the field of educational excellence as well as a strong sense of community and sports culture all add to the wonderful experience you'll have at the University of Connecticut.
