On the way up!
IntroductionUConn is a great school that is on its way up. I loved it when I came and visited because of its setting. The academics are great but the only downside is that it is secluded.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe social life at uconn is great. You can find things to do at UConn all the time. Every weekend there are parties, football games, shows held by prominent artists like "American Rejects. UConn also holds this thing called Husky Howl, where you can go do things like bungee jumping. The sports I must say create a great environment here, and the basketball season drives everyone crazy. There is a kid here that shaves his head and paints his upper body with blue and white body paint. He is a real cool kid though. There are more than 300 clubs, which is great. I love the horticulture club, husky bhangra, and ballroom dancing.
AcademicsThe academics really depend on your major. The sciences at UConn are really strong. So are the education, business, psychology, and pharmacy majors. You can always find great research oppurtunities in many disciplines here. I really thought the courseload would be like a "walk in the park". However the science and math intro courses are really strong. So are the engineering and econ courses. However they psych, eng, and other liberal arts courses really depend on your professor. Some courses are easy, but some are really hard and require a lot of work. If you are looking for more challenging courses, you can take courses in the honors college.
Student BodyThe typical student at UConn is a jock. However there is a wide spectrum of students here that range from the preppy to the artsy, to the rapper, to the college jock. The average student here is a white and middle class. This is also a downside to UConn. There seems to be a greater sense of racial divide ever year at UConn.
In Closing...UConn is a great mid size school. It is a great school, that has great academics, and loads of fun things to do, especially if you are into sports. Go Huskies!!!
