Amazing all round.
IntroductionA lot of the people here are from Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, so it’s not that much of a culture change. I came here for the first time and I fell in love with the campus, it’s absolutely gorgeous. I just got that feeling when I walked on campus that this is a place I could see myself spending the next 4 years.
The people in the dorms are very social, so I think it was like the first night we decided to go out and we meet a lot of people. You will definitely find people who are academically motivated.
Campus Life and Social LifeThere are a lot of people who get caught up in the party aspect and kind of forget about the school aspect but I think if you can find a good balance, which a lot of people who are here seem to do. There definitely not a shortage of partying.
I think here it is a great way to get in-depth in your field. There are a lot of opportunities for people of all majors outside of just the academic. Obviously you do get a great education here. But there are other opportunities for when you graduate or while you’re still in school to get more in-depth and get a real feel for your major besides just the classes. Like get a more hands on experience.
The social scene is great here. It’s different than some universities where fraternity life and Greek life is all that there is to do. There are some schools where if they’re not at a frat party, you can’t go out, there’s nothing to do. Here there’s a great balance, there’s Greek life and there’s always plenty of frat parties, but there are also a lot of off campus apartment parties. Like I said there’s never a time when you can’t find something to do, which is great. At the same time also there are a lot of things that doesn’t involve like drinking or you can if you don’t drink find something to do, that you’re not by yourself or alone if you don’t drink. At the same time if you do there’s a lot to do.

AcademicsThe guys here are great, there’s plenty to choose from depending on what you like and who you are and the ratio of more girls being on campus going to school here really doesn’t play a huge factor in finding guys if you’re a girl.
One of the drawbacks about Delaware is it’s not located in a big city. It’s not in Philadelphia, it’s not in Baltimore, the closet thing is Wilmington. I think every Thursday night pretty much since I can remember, there’s a club trip to Philly, to Baltimore, even to Wilmington. It is a great way to get off campus if you’re looking to go out. The parties there are great. It’s a great opportunity to meet people in your school and at other schools. And you’re not confined to stay on campus.
The energy on campus is great. That’s one of the reasons why I feel in love with it. The campus itself is gorgeous and everyone is so nice and inviting and that’s what really drew me here. There are always things going on especially on nice days. There are people playing Frisbee, playing baseball, just kind of sitting out, hanging around having a good time. It definitely draws you in, makes you feel like you are a part of something.
Student BodyFor the lower level classes, like lab classes, they are always run by TA’s. ..If you are an incoming freshman and you have a smaller class, they’re run by TA’s. So it doesn’t feel like it’s a professor lecturing the entire time. It’s like more a younger teacher that helps you out.
When it does get loud in the dorm, there’s a study lounge usually in every building, sometimes on every floor depending on where you live. Also you can always go to the library to study, that’s a quiet environment, pretty much at all times. That’s pretty much where you’d go if you have problems studying in your dorm because the dorm can be distracting.
There are a lot of clubs for students to get involved with here on campus. And there are a lot of sports and other activities
In Closing...As far as housing and getting the dorm you want, it usually isn’t a problem at all for freshman. Wherever you want to live you can pretty much get it. For honors students you can only live on east campus which is a great place to live with an atmosphere. Pencater is pretty far from campus, from academic buildings, from other things like that. If you want to live there though its great because the rooms are really big, bigger than any other freshman dorms on campus by far.
The campus food really isn’t that bad. There are fatty foods that you can eat. If you do want to eat healthy though it’s a possibility. There are healthy foods. There are other places besides just the dining hall to get food. There are just a lot of different places to eat so if you get sick of the dining hall food you can go somewhere else and its all built on to the meal plan, so its very easy for students to eat healthy, eat right, and still eat good food.
This year, my freshman year has been absolutely fantastic, I can’t think of another way to put it. I’m very sad to see it end so quickly. I’ve had an amazing time here and I couldn’t see myself as happy anywhere else. A mix of amazing classes with great professors and the social scene is great going out. I’ve met so many new people I know I’ll be friends with for a long time.
It’s accessible for walking so you don’t need a car here, if you have one its good, you won’t even need it too much. It is expensive to keep a car here on campus and parking, going to classes, going to places it sucks its kind of expensive, lot of people get tickets very often. If you do have a car, watch out for parking.
