Great Academics, Mediocre Athletics and Hot Girls

Rating: 3/5 (44 ratings)
Introduction
The University of Delaware is one of those totally underrated schools because they lack a DI-AA football program. Not a lot of people have heard about UD, but thats because we don't make BCS bowl appearances, so if you have always wanted to go to a school that has 100,000 capacity stadium and BCS Bowl appearances I strongly suggest not to come here. However, if you believe a rigorous academic curriculum, awesome party scene, beautiful campus and available professors are the main factors that mold your perception of college, then it is quite possible UD is the best match for you. Also, if your a "pre-meddie" this is the school for you as the science courses here are, usually, ridiculously difficult, but because UD requires professors to hold office hours, it is plausible for you to do well. Furthermore, the undergraduate research programs is one of the best in the nation and you can do research in any particular field whether its functional genomics or middle east foreign policy. The campus isn't too big nor too small and looks great. You can seriously walk around the Green and say to yourself "now this is what college is." The campus food isn't the best considering the dining hall sometimes totally sucks, especially saturday nights, but Main Street is full of great restraunts. Also, the Trabant and Perkins centers have great food that you can purchase via the points on your meal plan. I graduated top in my class, was accepted to some of the best schools in the nation and do not regret my decision to come here at all. Alas, if only we had a DI-A football team in the ACC this school would get the respect if deserves.

Campus Life and Social Life
The girls on campus are ridiculously hot and anyone that denies it is either a jealous girl or trippin. Seriously, if you walk through the campus you will most likely be attracted to about 75-80% of the girls you see and during the spring semester it gets way better. There are always things to do on campus like hitting up the movies, playing raquetball at the Carpenter Sports Building getting food and the list goes on. The campus is real sweet because it has a huge central green so you can always play football or whatever. The parties can get real crazy and are everywhere. On any given day there is something going on. One of the main problems with the social scene is the lack thereof a great greek system. The frat houses are nothing compared to the likes of PSU or UMD and being in a frat doesn't really mean anything; although, there is a reemergence of the frat scene and it will prolly get crazy in a year or two if better houses are built. As said before, the DI-AA football stigma is really lame and we should have a DI-A program. The team is a perrential powerhouse, we won the National Championship in 2003, and the stadium is always filled to capacity (around 22k). Another problem with the football games is that the stadium should be expanded as sometimes there isn't enough room for students to watch and enjoy the game. As a football fan, I find it ridiculous that schools like Temple have DI-A status and don't have anyone show up to games. We are real proud of our football program, but if it was DI-A life would be great. Still we all are known as the most loud fans in DI-AA and rock the stadium.

Academics
The sciences at UD are great. Anyone that denies that doesn't know what they are talkin about. We are taught by some of the best minds in their respective fields, especially chemistry, engineering, biology and the list goes on. Some professor are totally insane and make classes very difficult, sometimes not even curving. Nevertheless, this makes the experience very tough, but rewarding. Sure, people can get an Ivy League education but I'm sure we work just as hard or even harder and eventually reach the same career and educational goals. Many kids graduate and go to some of the best graduate programs in the nation, while a lot of students like business or engineering majors have multiple job offers months before graduation. The pre-medicine advisory at the school is top notch as we are one of the leading schools in matriculating undergrads into medical school. I physics department is in need of some help, its decent. The philosophy department needs better buildings and sometimes professors are totally disconnected with reality. My workload is ridiculously comphrensive and difficult, but business majors get away with chilling and drinking all the time. People that major in difficult majors enjoy it and couldn't picture their lives without the workloud.

Student Body
The student body is very helpful and nice. Regardless of the fact that UD is a public school, over 60% of students are out of state. During my freshmen year, my floor was mostly from New York. However, there are stereotypes. The general UD populous can be described as a homogenous A&F monolith. However, everyone is real chill and making friends is really easy. The girls are really hot and out number the guys (60/40). There are a good number of international students and, did I forget, hot girls.

In Closing...
Come check out UD during the fall or spring semester when its really busy.
