Don't Forget that DU is a Private School
IntroductionI chose the University of Denver thinking it had the perfect student body size, a beautiful campus, a wide range of classes and majors, and a diverse group of people since it was in a big city. Most of those were right but the last two aren't exactly true. While there are many majors offered, Business is the predominant department and gets a few advantages because of it. It also isn't a diverse school demographically. There are quite a few students from other countries here for athletics, but otherwise the school is made up of wealthy, Caucasian students who come from boarding schools or private schools.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe campus life here is mediocre. Since there are very few Friday classes even offered, most students get a three-day weekend which usually consists of going to the mountains during the winter or just hanging out. Although there are Frat parties around campus, a lot of students go to CU or other colleges to party. Since the University is located on the edge of Denver, downtown hot spots are nearby and there is also a mall (although it is a very high-end) just down the street.
AcademicsIf you are going to be a Business major or a graduate student in the Law School and you can afford DU, go here. If you aren't really sure what you want to major in or are majoring in something at DU that isn't a very big Department, go somewhere else because this place won't be worth your money. The classes are a good size and there are a lot of resources, but many fill up very fast...or don't offer enough options.
Student BodyThe typical student at DU is probably from California or a small, white suburb in some other state. He or she probably has a fancy car parked in the garage, at least one of his/her daddy's credit cards in his/her wallet, is a business major so he/she can take over the family business, and comes from a private school or a boarding school, leading him/her to think he/she is better than all the other students.
In Closing...The dorms do not have air conditioning and it is not pleasant here during the fall and spring!
