Ski School with a Beer Problem
IntroductionIf you like to ski and want to get a great education while doing it, DU is the place for you. It has the perfect size undergrad about 5,000. It's academic reputation is growing every year. If you have good grades and good test scores and can interview well, you will more than likely get some much need financial aide from Admissions. The University has invested millions of dollars into new dorms and academic buildings. It's been the perfect place for me because the classes are small enough that your professors know you name, and you can have office hours with them without worries. During your junior year, it is likely that you will take part in the Global Cherrington Scholars, which makes it financially possible for any student to study abroad. I went to Barcelona last year for 5 months, and had the time of my life.
Campus Life and Social LifeWinter Quarter is the height of social life on campus. People hit the slopes every weekend. It is without a doubt that you will easily find a ride to Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail, and Beaver Creek every weekend. Hockey games are extremely fun and sell out almost every weekend. The rivalry with Colorado College burns deep at DU, which makes for a great experience. Since the majority of DU students have to live on campus for two years, the party scene can sometimes hurt, but there are always people going to the local bars around DU or downtown. Everyone has fake IDs and loves them. DU is far enough away from downtown Denver that you never feel like you live in the city, and the campus always feels safe. Some people around campus can be really stuffy and unwilling to meet new people, but for the most part if you want to get involved you'll find your niche at DU.

AcademicsThe Daniels College of Business is the largest calling for Undergraduates, and is the greatest business schools in the region, and is gaining in rankings every year. The Josef Korbel School of International Studies is another wonderful opportunity for students to learn the issues of foreign policy and the global economy. Mass Communications is a struggling program at DU. The facility is small and funding is cut each year as other programs gain more interest from undergrads. Theater is another program is hardly heard or seen around campus. I've went to a couple show, and was not impressed.
Student BodyDiversity is a major problem for DU the majority of the students are white upper middle class, but DU is working hard to bring in the best and brightest from around the country. Each year DU sees an increase in minority interest. Hockey is the primary sport and is the big draw for students. The lack of a football team can get depressing, but Boulder and CSU are just up the road. If you like to drink and party, you will always be able to find something going on. If you like to stay in there is always that crowd and option as well.
In Closing...If you like skiing, studying abroad, watching NCAA hockey champions play, competitive academics, and great weather, DU is the place for you.
