Cheap Party School
IntroductionIt is in state and inexpensive. And it is a very good school.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe type of students you find at this school depends on who you are and where you hang out. There are students that are entirely Greek, and that will be one group of students. There are independent people who don’t go to all the Greek bars. There are many different groups. You will find one of anything you are looking for. There are a ton of different groups and people. There is diversity but there are tons of cliques. All the cool people who are really trendy all hang out together. Then all the chill and laid back people hang out together. Then there are people who are anti-social that hang out together. It is really diverse with all these different groups that you can join. But it’s very cliquey.
AcademicsQuad Day is the day before classes start when there are hundreds of clubs on the Quad. You get all these pieces of paper that say you should join a club. Usually when you are a freshman you join like 40 clubs and then you realize you don’t want to be in any of them but then you are stuck on their mailing list. I am in a sketch comedy group that I found out about through Quad Day. What we do: you sign up for email lists and hand out information. That is how it is for all clubs; they just try to get their name out there. You basically walk around for 2 hours on a really really hot day gathering information and seeing what you might be interested in.
Student BodyI am in a sketch comedy group called Potted Meat. Like the processed food product. We write and perform all our own sketches. We perform 3 to 4 times a semester. We do new material for every show. It’s like Saturday Night Life in the early ‘90s. It’s fun.
In Closing...The Philosophy department here is pretty good if you are interested in philosophy or if you are interested in any sort of theology. As a freshman/sophomore, the classes are usually half and half of people who are interested in philosophy and people who are just trying to finish gen eds. Now I am in a class with 6 people who sit around and just discuss 1 philosopher. As you go up in the years, classes get smaller and topics get more concentrated. You get to spend a lot more time with your professors and your TAs. Students and TAs have a pretty good relationship which is nice because they grade your papers. The professors are really helpful, like if you have any questions or need recommendations.
