Living Legacy

Rating: 3/5 (36 ratings)
Introduction
I came to this school because my dad and my brother are alumni. After I visited this campus, I really enjoyed being here. It looks like a real college campus. You feel really independent walking around. It’s really beautiful. It’s a good school, and it was probably the best opportunity for me.

Campus Life and Social Life
Not only do most students come from in-state, but most come from up north toward the Chicago-land area. The people I met will mention a town name, and I will know it because it is a half hour from my area. It’s kind of rare to see people from out of state…you usually ask them, well, why did you come here?
Academics
It is the largest Greek community in the United States. There are over 80 fraternities and sororities, ranging from social, private, ethnic and school-related. About 25 percent of the students here are Greek. I feel like a lot of the campus relies on the Greek activities that go on here.

Student Body
I am in a sorority and I am also in a couple of clubs. One is for academic reasons, for finding a job. The other one is for ethnic reasons, just talking to people with similar interests. There are over 800 clubs here. You can start a club. If you have some kind of idea, you just go to the university and you get a form and start a club. At the beginning of the year, there is a Quad Day where you go and all the clubs set up tables. You spend 3 hours picking up pamphlets and you can just sign your name up at that table. Then you are a part of that club.

In Closing...
We were really proud to find out we were one of the top party schools last year. The party scene is basically beginning of the semester. A lot of the frat parties have parties, mainly because it is the beginning of recruitment. The sororities have a lot of bonding going on. Our party scene is party much localized in the bars on and off campus. Pre-gaming is big because a lot of the bars charge to get in. A lot of people are low on cash so you get together with your friends ahead of time and you drink with them. That way when you get to the bars you are already having fun with you get there.
