Corporate and Clumsy
IntroductionKU is a very large and corporate institution. As an incoming freshman, it is easy to get lost, overwhelmed and drowned-out by its large scale impersonality and institutionalized approach to education. If you are wanting a college that focuses on your academic needs as a fledgling scholar, KU is not for you. If you, however, you desire a 4 year degree from a prodigiously mediocre institution that cares not whether you pass or fail or just get by, then KU can fulfill your wildest dreams.
Campus Life and Social LifeIf you are interested in partying a lot, shallow conversation, trivial relationships and a general atmosphere that does not promote character building or intellectual development for creating a more perfect world, once again, KU is for you. If you are into corporate sporting outlets, a decent music scene and conservative politics, then the University of Kansas is definitely the place to be.

AcademicsWorkload is significant. Some departments are strictly by the book and to the letter with no room whatsoever for engaging in any dialog for improvement/creativity/flexibility with the professors. One has to be really passionate about their field to be noticed here and it takes a lot of work. Whether or not a department sucks or is awesome just depends on who you meet and how much you are willing to put into your education.
Student BodyStudent body is extremely conservative. Don't let the "liberal" rating fool you. This is still Kansas. There are young students that come to school here from western Kansas that think this is the big city. The money here is all old-school Republican cash and older white males dominate all of the institutions administrative departments.
In Closing...This is a very poor institution to attend if you are a non-traditional student. Resources in and around the University and the community of Lawrence in general are few and far between and what little is here is very difficult to obtain. Also, if you are a minority student, KU has a very poor record of retaining students of color and/or low-income students. Support is very hard to find.
