Decent Academics, Just Not Much Else...

Rating: 1/5 (58 ratings)
Introduction
Before you go to the University of Louisville, make sure you really understand what you want for your college experience. If you want decent professors with medium class sizes and a diverse student body (both ages and ethnicity). Then Louisville could be for you. However, if you are looking for quality student life, stay away from Louisville. Since Louisville is mostly a commuter school, the campus is devoid of life Friday through Sunday, as well as most nights throughout the week.

Campus Life and Social Life
On campus student life is sparse, out of the students who live on campus their first year (which is relatively low), very few continue to live on campus. Because of this, there is really no center spot for student life during evening hours. The majority of the parties held at Louisville are small houes parties within closed groups of friends, although there are larger parties less frequently, often hosted by the larger fraternities on campus.

Academics
If Louisville does have one redeeming factor, it is its academics. If the student life quirks do not bother you, and you want to have an engineering or business degree, this could be the right place. JB Speed School (engineering) has been renowned not only for its difficulty and speed (no pun intended) which students are run through the 5 year program, but also for the quality of students that come out if it. Granted, it is a tough school, but if you can stay focused for for years, you will come out with a masters and two co-op's under your belt. Expect a heavy workload here.

The business school is also doing very well, as it is currently ranked in the top 7%, as well as the enteurialship program ranked 19th in the nation (ahead of Harvard mind you). The class sizes are fairly medium sized, allowing you to recieve attention from the professors if need be. Depending on your major, your workload can be anywhere from almost nothing (managemetn majors) to Speed School like (computer information systems - CIS for short - majors).

The rest of the school is fairly decent, but is nothing stellar. If you rae looking for a well off Arts and Sciences degree (English, Communications, etc.) look elsewhere.

Student Body
The majority of students at Louisvlle are commuter students of all ages. It is not uncommon to be in a class with people in there late 20's and 30's.

Because of the influx of commuter's most of the people attending Louisville are from in-state, usually within 45 minutes of the school.

The majority of the student body is apathetic to most events on campus, with the exception of some of the fraternities and sororites on campus.

In Closing...
If you are wanting to become a business of engineering major, and having a largely uninteresting student body does not bother you, Louisville may be the place for you. Otherwise, look for the other Universities nearby such as the University of Kentucky or Indiana University.
