Pretty good!

Rating: 5/5 (98 ratings)
Introduction
U of L largely has great faculty. I am in the business school and I haven't had a teacher whom I haven't liked. It gets worse when you start dealing with math and science classes, however. It is very difficult to have one of these classes and not have it be taught by a person of foreign nationality. This complicates the learning process by not allowing the student to understand what the heck the teacher is saying. Furthermore, be advised that when they call this a liberal arts school, the mean LIBERAL! As a conservative, I am in the minority at this place. Furthermore, these liberals are quite outspoken. The biggest reason you should go to U of L is if you plan on having a job while you are in college. U of L is quite accommodating for people with busy schedules. DON'T come here if college is going to be your only job, because the truth is there just isn't enough going on around campus to keep you from dying of boredom in your free time.

Campus Life and Social Life
U of L has never been known for their parties. Sure, there is the occasional big-time frat party where they rent out an airplane hangar and there is like 1,000 people there, but those don't outweigh the lack of regular parties. I often end up driving to UK in Lexington to party on the weekends. They know how to party down there. While there is an extreme lack of house parties and keggers, we do have a great club scene. Several clubs now allow 18 and up. Among these are Petrus, Villa Fontana, and O' Malley's. It gets really good once you're 21, as 4th street live has all kinds of clubs, bars, and restaurants. Bardstown road is another place where there is literally just a strip of bars. Sports at U of L are always good. Over the past several years, we've always had a strong, nationally ranked football and basketball team. The basketball team is currently experiencing some woes, but with 7 freshmen on the team you can bet it's only going to get better. There are several clubs to get involved in, but they often don't offer much to do other than the occasional free meal. They're pretty much just purely resume builders.

Academics
Engineering is great, Business is great, Music is very good, and Arts and Sciences is okay. We're known nationally for Engineering, but it's not for the faint of heart. Yearly, there's a great number of high school 4.0's that end up having to switch majors because they just can't handle our Speed engineering school. Business school is also tough, but doesn't have the same turnover rate. The nicest thing about the business school is that you are vitually guaranteed a knowledgeable teacher that speaks good English! Any other class involving math or science is a big gamble! Workload in Business isn't bad, as homework isn't too common. You still have to know your stuff for the tests though!

Student Body
Typical student is super-liberal, from somewhere in Kentucky, dress weird/ugly as hell, is not very attractive, is not going to graduate in 6 years (that's right, 6 years!), is not very school spirited, and in spite of being in Kentucky, is not overly friendly. Of course there are exceptions, but this describes the majority at the school. The above description pertains mainly to A&S students, the largest part of the school. Engineering has lots of geeks and foreigners, and the business school has the highest concentration of good-looking and normal people. So if you are into diversity, then U of L is the place for you!

In Closing...
If you wanna party then do yourself a favor and stay away from here. UK has us beat big time in that department. Also upwards of 60% of UofL students live off campus, often far off campus. So it turns into a ghost town after 5 every day. Campus life is NOT a big selling point for this University.
