Always be outgoing
IntroductionTo be a Maryland estudent, you have to make yourself stand out from the 30,000 other people on campus. Maryland is a huge school, with many opportunities open to all the students. Students, especially freshman, have to learn how to balance their rigerous schedules, their social life, and extra-curriculars. Even though Maryland has a great social scene, its not a party school. University of Maryland academic programs, especially business, government, and journalism are very hard. Many of these programs are limited enrollment programs, which means that you mush maintain a certain gpa to stay within the major. You must learn to adjust quickly to the demands of school, but not shut yourself off in your dorm room. I was accepted to many schools, but I still chose Maryland. I love how the school is so beautiful, especially in the spring. I also love how you can really find your niche within such a huge school
Campus Life and Social LifeUniversity of Maryland has a good social life. Frat parties do exist, but many of them take place at satellite houses rather than Frat Row. The president has cracked down on huge frat parties. The bar scene is amazing. There are always people at the bar or out. UMD is also extremely close to B-more and DC, which is my sorority holds many of our social events. Greek life is not for everyone, but being that there are so many sorority and fraternity houses, you can find the one right for you.
In terms of sports, we are amazing. Let me restart that, we WERE amazing. Even though our basketball and football teams didn't do so well last year, many people still attended the games and cheered on our beloved terps. To get tickets to the games, the students must go on a website and request tickets. For each game you go to or get your ticket scanned, you build points which will help you get into the next game. Even though the point system has some glitches. I was able to attend the Duke game, which was amazing.

AcademicsUniversity of Maryland is not an easy school, even though some people beg to differ. As a student in a limited enrollment program, we are kept on deep watch to make sure that are up to the individual schools standards. Even though there are certain courses that are known as easy A's, once you get in your particular major you have to work hard. At Maryland, there is a CORE program, where each student must take, humanities, science, math, and english programs, but they are easy to get through.
Student BodyThere is no stereo-typical student at UMD. Maryland is very diverse, with many different groups and types. There are the jocks and the greek system, but not everyone is alike.
In Closing...I am soo happy that I am at University of Maryland. Even though you may have reservations on the size of the school, you can make it smaller but the programs you join and how outgoing you are. Being that UMD is so close to Baltimore and DC, there are amazing internship opportunities that you can not get at a Indiana University or UVA. As a government major, I will be able to attend classes and work on the Hill.
