Introduction
It’s 30,000 plus kids here so there’s a lot going on and the sports really kind of bring people together, help draw people in because we are so successful in all the different aspects of sports.

Campus Life and Social Life
Business school has really been an enjoyable experience for me. I think a lot of the professors are very helpful, they’re willing to take time out of their schedule to sit down and to meet with you in class, out of class, after class, before class. I’ve found in a lot of the other classes that are not business related, it’s much more difficult to get a hold of the professors to get one on one time. The business school here is one of the leading business school’s in the country. I think it’s not very cutthroat. It’s very competitive and people really push each other hard, but it’s also a relaxed environment and its very friendly. It’s very easy to succeed if you put your time in and you put your best foot forward. I think a lot of the professors, especially here at the business school are very aware of yes you want to do well in class, and you want to succeed, but also that there are bigger goals that you have in life and in your career and they’re able to help you with that as well.

Academics
An incoming freshman class is probably between 40 and 50, as you begin to find your major and you get into smaller niche classes it’s probably 25 to 30. It’s much more manageable your second 2 years.
The freshman dorms are really something to get used to. Obviously its your first year here from being out of college so you’re used to being at home with your family. It takes some getting used to sharing a bathroom with 30, 35 people. University of Maryland is probably 50-60% people that are from the state of Maryland because it’s a publicly funded University.
One of the big things and one of the big draws to the university is definitely the diversity. You meet a lot of different people from all different ethnic and racial backgrounds, religious backgrounds and it really affords you the opportunity to meet all different people and find out who they are and to learn about different races and religions.

Student Body
It’s really easy to go to DC from here. We’re 9 miles outside of DC, the College Park metro station is about a mile from here. The public transportation system running through the University of Maryland makes it very easy to get into DC.
There are a lot of sights to see, as far as monuments and museums and parks and that sort of thing. There’s also a lot of entertainment opportunities there with the nightlife and all different things because there are a lot of different universities inside and around DC, there are a lot of college age people you can meet and have a good time with.
There’re a lot of people around that you can find that drink heavily, there’re people that drink moderately, some people that drink lightly, and even not at all. So I think its easy to find friends and to meet people that you’re comfortable with in the drinking environment. There are four local bars, that are very easily accessible, and also DC affords the opportunity for a number of different drinking establishments down there as well. It’s really easy around here to find people that you have a common interest in as far as drinking goes.

In Closing...
Campus safety has been an issue at the university of Maryland since I’ve been here. They’re really trying to increase the police force and police presence around here but unfortunately the crime has pretty much hit a level that it’s not going down, as much as it is rising slowly. It’s tough at night especially if you’re a female. But I think the university is really doing a good job of taking measures to try to bring some of that to a halt.
