Go Maryland!

Introduction
My freshman year I came in and we won the ACC in football, which was pretty amazing right here and we won the national championship in basketball. So I think I hit it at the good times.
It’s been amazing. I love waking up Saturdays and come over here, tailgating with friends….teams been great and the fan support is really good. We go straight from football season. We have all the excitement of the crowd and everything and this place is really rocking and then basketball season comes around and that’s really the big thing around here. Always had a pretty good basketball team. It’s huge here and the fans love it, getting into midnight madness, everyone gets so excited and we always have a good team, so I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Last February I started working for the football team here, as a equipment manager.
Get to meet a great bunch of guys, get to see how it works for the football team. It’s great experience, we get to travel with the team, stand on the sidelines during the games, we handle all the equipment. For a big school they do a great job of integrating all the students.

Campus Life and Social Life
The professors are great, that’s one nice thing also about being here. You’re so close to DC you get so many great professors.

I think 30% are involved in the Greek system. There’s so many clubs and different things to get involved in you’re not an outcast if you don’t join the Greek system. The social is more, you know if you’re older the bars are down on route 1 which is right across from campus. A couple bars, kids go to hang out there. Cornerstone, Bentley, Santa Fe. Just typical college bar, hang out there get some beer, $2, $1, Bud nights once a week, wings, happy hour, stuff like that. Typical whatever you would expect from tailgating, grills and footballs playing around and lot of noise. Lot of people wearing red. That’s our color. Everyone wears big red, you know Terp out t-shirts whatever so that he dress of choice.

Academics
A lot of kids from Maryland obviously, but predominantly from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and Maryland outside of that. So it’s kind of an east coast theme here. There a lot of clubs and ways for students to get involved.
Because I’m in the journalism, I worked for the radio station, WMUC from freshman year on and I met my closets friends there. Go to cover some great events and do some interesting things and get experience that will hopefully help me in the future and my career. There are student unions, different organizations based on religion, ethnicity, and just general interests. I know they have clubs just for sports, like they kayaking clubs, and hiking clubs, and skiing clubs.

Student Body
That’s one of the nice things about this campus is it’s so big, but there are so many different students who like a variety of things and chances are if you have a particular interest and want to pursue that there will be other people around that do that.
The student govt. is very good about giving grants and you know helping kids start clubs they want or join them or if they need money to pursue some different goals or you’ll be able to fulfill it.

In Closing...
If you’re going out at night go out in groups. Don’t just walk down random dark allies with $20 hanging out of your pockets. There’s crime, I’ve never had a problem with it. We get these crime alerts from the chief of police via email and the campus is very involved. They have police emergency phones everywhere and they do a good job of informing you and trying to make you aware.
I don’t know if the food is worse than other schools, its probably about the same. There are two dining halls on each, north and south campus respectively.
