Like Riots?
IntroductionYou can’t just touch on sports when you talk about Maryland. Sports plays a huge role, we’ve got ACC football, ACC everything. Our lacrosse team, our football team, our basketball team, fairly large. Especially our freshman year. There’s like 36,000 students, undergraduate at this school, so you kind of run into a lot of people.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe campus begins to get smaller. By the time I say you’re a sophomore or a junior, you begin to know people and the largeness of the campus becomes a lot smaller, so it becomes a lot more comfortable.

AcademicsFreshman year I took psych 100 which had over 500 people in it. So you were a small fish in a really big pond. If you go to office hours with your teachers, they begin to know who you are and you begin to know who they are and you recognize them so you really become friendly and comfortable with your teachers if you make the effort, if you don’t make the effort you just, you drown. But if you make the effort it will really pay off in the end. Core classes are classes that everybody as a student at Maryland needs to take depending on the dept. that you’re in or college that you’re in. Usually they cover arts and humanities courses, science courses, math courses, and diversity courses. So you get to choose within what classes you want to take.
Student BodyYou could obviously join the Greek system which a lot of people do. There’s like 36 fraternities and 16 or 12 sororities, so it’s a pretty large Greek system to begin with. And every major has an academic and social fraternity. There’s religious groups, there’s interest groups. It’s really a lot to choose from. I wouldn’t even know where to begin. Drinking is very prevalent on this campus. I wouldn’t necessarily deem us a party school per se. But tailgating happens a lot. We’re a big football school so you have adults come with their RV’s and big SUV’s and setup shop for the football and basketball games.
In Closing...They really encourage the students to take part in the whole, you know sports and fun scene. But they end up coming down on you when like we riot after because we tailgated. We do like quiet riots now were we light like a t-shirt on fire. I think they try to institute anti-rioting acts, I think it was called zoom or something, where they threatened to expel you if you’re caught rioting. We’ve had SWAT, we have riot police come with paint pellets, and spray gas, on horses and everything, but in the end it will happen. Its inevitable, we won.
