Introduction
I think Maryland’s a great place and I came here from Savannah, GA so I didn’t really know anyone and its just been a really great experience and I think that for the most part there’s a lot offered on this campus and its really just up to you to seek it out and take advantage of all the university has to offer.
It was really intimidating to go into classrooms that have 400, 500 people in the beginning cause most freshman lecture halls will be that big, but after a while you become more into your major, the classes become a lot smaller. I have upper level classes of 15-20 people now. So it’s just something that you have to get used to in the very beginning.
I thought it was very big and a little overwhelming at first. And when I was handed my first map to navigate the campus I didn’t think I would ever be able to learn the campus the way that I know it but it really only took like 2 or 3 days.

Campus Life and Social Life
Actually they provide a service on campus these locater booths, all over campus the first week of classes so that students can come up to the locator both and find out where they are and what classroom they need to be in. And it’s a really helpful service just because is very big.
I guess I would say its not the safest town. It’s not like you’re gonna go to a town where there’s a lot of nice shops and fun places to eat. It’s pretty limited, the area of College Park, but what’s really nice is D.C.’s pretty close and you know there are nice areas surrounding the campus. A lot is offered on the campus itself so you know you don’t always have to go out to eat on Knox Rd. and College Park.
I don’t think that there really is a typical University of Maryland student just because there’s a lot of diversity on this campus and I think that’s what makes this place really great is you see people who are interested in so many different types of things and from all places around the globe.

Academics
And its just a really unique place and I think that although you can definitely find your niche here, there’s so much offered so therefore there a lot of different types of students here.

You are going to be shoved into very big lecture halls from the beginning so if you’re the type of person who’s shy and is overwhelmed by a big campus it’ll be really tough to go here, but I think that the students here are overall very friendly.
Because there’s a very large Greek population I think that there are a lot of the typical frat boys and sorority girls. And that makes up a large chunk of this campus.

Student Body
I met a lot of people through the meal plan that I was on and meeting people in the cafeteria, and people on my hall. I got very involved in the campus right from the beginning, so in doing so I just kind of formed a group for myself, very early on.
There’s a ton of stuff to get involved with and you can pretty much think of anything and there will be something for that type of person. I generally don’t tend to venture into DC, maybe once every few weeks and you generally not to even see museums, to either go out, to go out to a bar, to go out to eat. But in terms of the museums I think there’s a lot to take advantage of it just depends how you allot your time.

In Closing...
I guess the bars are the place to hang out for people who are older, even though they are not so strict on ID’s here. Pretty much people go out to the bars and hang out in their apartments and I guess find various outlets to be social.
