IntroductionI chose UMASS at first because It was basically and affordable state school that had many options. I was worried about the whole "zoo" reputation and the large size. I'm not a huge party animal. But now I can tell you I LOVE IT!!!! If you find the right friends and live in a residential area that fits who you are. then you're good. You find you're own niche and forget about the fact that the school is rather large.
Campus Life and Social LifeThere are parties everywhere if you know where to look, like Southwest, the townhouses etc. If you're not into that you can chill in your dorm with some friends up in OHill and that's cool too. There's something for everyone.
AcademicsThe professors are great, I've never had any major problems. They're always willing to help even if the class has 400+ students. if they can't help the TAs are good too.
Student BodyWeekends for me are going to Hillel (Jewish group) for Shabbat and then hanging out with friends. Then homework on Sunday. If you want to have fun and party all night, you can do that too, but that's just not me.
In Closing...Umass has something for everyone. We do have a party repuatation but you can stay away from it easily if you want to.
