Want a great mix of parting and school?!

Introduction
In the news there are a lot of budget cuts I hear about teachers loosing jobs, staff going down. But I haven’t noticed anything with class sizes increasing or anything.

Campus Life and Social Life
I’d have to say South West is more sports-oriented, and then central is more like the most diverse area. North East is definitely for people who are serious about their studies – its closest to campus so they don’t have to walk as far. Sylvan’s kind of up on the hill, everyone tries to avoid that. Sophomores usually are required to live on campus and it’s just not a thing that most people do. But I know sophomores that are off campus. My least favorite thing about UMASS has to be the dining hall food. It caused me to move off campus as a sophomore and it was just not what I wanted to eat. I go to the grocery store once or twice a week and try to cook. A lot of fast food, a lot of ordering out. It’s tough to get into the bars sometimes if you’re not 21 but, usually the bar scene is pretty good. If you go out on a Thursday night, you’re gonna see like the streets just packed.
Academics
U MASS is very competitive. My girlfriend tried to get in here and she had a decent and a pretty good SAT score and she couldn’t get in. I have like 5 classes, all computer science. They’re all project based so I’m constantly doing animation and all sorts of cutting edge stuff. Open the computer and that just takes hours and hours sucked out of my life. What’s cool about U MASS is that they have a bulletin board system on their classes where you can just sort of post a question that you want to have answered and either a professor or someone else in the class can go ahead and answer it and you can get feedback.

Student Body
The tailgating is awesome for UMASS football, you come out here and there’s just people playing outdoor Beirut, there’s people just cooking out – it’s unbelievable and then coming to the game after wards everybody’s all rowdy and ready for a good time.

In Closing...
School spirit at U MASS is Excellent. You’ll see a constant GO U MASS! And all these chants at all the events. Especially hockey, people get real fired up about hockey.
