Beauty of Coral Gables

Rating: 1/5 (56 ratings)
Introduction
The University of Miami has a tremendous music school. I am a music student here. I study instrumental performance. And I like how you get a conservatory setting with a university feel to it.

Campus Life and Social Life
Coral Gables I think is a really nice area. If you leave the campus there is a lot of Hispanic culture and there are a lot of really wealthy areas. My favorite thing about this campus is the flora and fauna, I love seeing all the beautiful trees and all the plants they are very exotic. I feel completely safe on University of Miami’s campus. They have lots of security around and to get into the dorms you have to swipe a card and after 10 you have to go through with a security to card. I’ve never had any problems on campus so I feel completely safe. My RA has been wonderful, she keeps our floor under control, but still lets us be girls and have fun. She always there to talk to which I really like. She has kept our floor really secure. There haven’t been any problems. The dorms are separated by floor. There are men’s floors and women’s floors. My freshman dorm is 12 floors high and I live on the 7th so I have to take the elevator. They are community to bathrooms so you can just walk down the hall and you don’t ever have to clean up after yourself.

Academics
I think that I would say is a great reason to come to the University of Miami is the academics. It’s a great school, all of my professors have been so intelligent and helped me. I know the degree I receive from here is going to be worth a lot.

Student Body
My first impression of the kids was that they were really friendly and knowledgeable about where they went to school. The typical student here probably likes to get a good education because it’s a private university. They like to party, have a good time because this is an open school, but I think everyone’s pretty serious about work here. The students might be pretentious because this is a private school, it costs a lot of money to go here, but a lot of students are also on scholarships. The stereotype of university of Miami being just a party school I think is a bit overdone. The kids here can get a tan, but I think that a lot of people do focus on their studies. I think on campus here the students are hot. There are a lot of people who really do take care of their bodies because they don’t have to wear a lot of clothes all the time. I’ve been to only one frat party and I thought that it was ok. I haven’t been back. I do go to the wellness center, which is the university fitness center. I go there almost every day because they have a pool, they have weight equipment. They have elliptical machines, cardiovascular machines. Everything you want. It’s really busy but I don’t ever have to weight for the machines.

In Closing...
In my first semester there were 3 hurricanes in a row so we were locked down, where they kept us in our floor. I felt totally safe because they have hurricane shutters on the windows. It was a lot of fun actually because my friends and I just hung out inside. Slept a lot. The weather here is very beautiful. It’s usually very sunny, if it rains, it rains for like 15 mins. It kind of rains often because of the humidity. But as soon it rains the sun comes back up and it’s back to being Miami.
