Great School for the Right Type of Person

Introduction
The university of miami can be a great place to spend your college years if you are the right person. People here are very trendy, wealthy, athletic, and do not worry too much about their academics. This school truly gives you the opportunity to pursue whatever you want.

Campus Life and Social Life
The university, known to students as UM, is about 20 minutes from South Beach and 5-10 minutes from Coconut Grove (The Grove). It really doesn't matter what night it is, people will be out partying. There are few big house parties, but when they happen they are big and good, although nothing near the size of what you will see at big state schools. Most of the time, people spend their nights in clubs where it isn't unusual to be partying next to celebrities or going to the bars in the grove. In the fall Saturdays are for football, and many of the people at the school can be found at the Orange Bowl watching the 'Canes. The beach is an awesome place to meet people, and a favorite on the weekends. Campus athletics aren't that popular, but do get some recognition. The fraternities don't throw manyu parties, but roll with large groups into the bars in the grove. Academics
You can easily earn good grades at UM, although to take a lot away from the classes you do need to put time into them. You have to be careful with the professors you choose because some can be very inexperienced and difficult to understand, while others can industry moguls that offer indispensible advice and connections. The Business school has one of the better Entrepreneurship programs in the nation, while the Theatre and Jazz programs are tremendous. Generally speaking though, UMiami is considered one the best school in Florida by residents and business owners.

Student Body
Before going to this school know what you are getting into. The students at this school come from extremely wealthy families and love to show their money off. I wouldn't as far as saying you shouldn't come here if you don't have money, but understand it will be very difficult to be in the In Crowd with out it. People are very trendy here and almost everyone wears designer clothes. I've heard people say that this school is very "Abercrombie", but that is inaccurate because many of the people at this school think Abercrombie is too cheap of a brand to wear. The Greek life here is not that large but definetly gets noticed. For guys that aren't in a fraternity, it can be difficult to get girls if they don't have some other sort of edge. The average student goes out three or four times a week, with few being more studious than that. There is a sense of self-entitlement among the people here, even though most people are pretty accepting of other races as long as they consider them trendy enough. The most common car here is a BMW 3 series.
I would say that many people at this school are generally fake, but this can be a common theme at big city schools.
Then there are the commuter students who generally unnoticed and don't participate much in the school or in its social groups. They make up about 10-15% of the population of the school.
Students here are driven and confident though. I hate to sound sexist, but the men are mostly here to become very successful, famous and/or rich (I know I am) and the women are here to do the same or find a wealthy husband. Understand that class at this school is a very important thing to possess, if not money. Friends come and go very easily here, and many people are not what they pretend to be.

In Closing...
Miami can offer you an incredible place to spend college at and can turn you on to a world you never thought you could know, or that you've only seen in movies. You can learn so much in classes here, and meet so many of the future leaders of this country (what city would you go to if you knew you were set financially for the rest of your life). The clubs are the best in the world, and there is always something going on. The connections you can make through the school, especially if you make a conscious effort, are endless. The people are nice beautiful, and many are even intelligent. People can be fake, very superficial, and judgemental however. So if you think you are a trendy person, or don't care if people think that you are not, then this is a great school.
