The U
IntroductionI would tell a high school student considering my school to bring sunblock. That wasn't a joke, but honestly, the University of Miami has a lot of opportunity to blow off class and spend your life tanning, but most kids here are on academic scholarship and would prefer not to lose it. Most students here learn to time-manage quickly, balancing the temptation to bask in the Florida sun with the obligations that come with being in an ever-improving academic environment.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe best of campus life is that you are never alone. If you need to study in the library at 1 am, there are people there. If you want to hang out in the University Center, or at the pool at night, there are people there. If you want to go to South Beach, you will find a friend to give you a ride. The activities available on any given night run the gamut from an all-night cram for Organic Chemistry II to an all-night craze at Prive. Most students try to work both in at some point during their four years here.
AcademicsThe University's academics have been improving exponentially in the past years, making the University pretty academically rigorous these days. As a biology major, I have not found that the workload is unbearable, but it does demand a certain amount of sacrifice as far as daily debauchery goes. Every department I've come in contact with has great, enthusiastic teachers. The only class I haven't loved so far is Introduction to Philosophy. Any teacher will respond with enthusiasm to enthusiasm.
Student BodyI think I answered this already. The student body, in particular, is very involved. I think the constant sunshine is invigorating.
In Closing...We have a great gym.
