UM - the insanity

Rating: 2.3/5 (3 ratings)
Introduction
I'm from Miami originally so I fit into the commuter student clan. most people from my high school didn't get in so I was forced to make all new friends, which was awesome because all the out of city students appreciate my knowledge of the city (and where not to be at 3 a.m.) A LOT of people are super shallow, especially those in the greek system. other clubs like the Association of Commuter Students is great, friendly, and down to earth. there's tons of others but thats the one I'm involved with the most.

Campus Life and Social Life
there are hardly ever parties on campus unless you live in The Village or any other off campus housing. everyone likes to go to The Grove, downtown, Midtown, Lincoln Road, or anywhere on the beach. taxis are expensive so you better drive and parking is even more expensive so always have cash and money in your bank account, ha! The football games are amazing but again they are far away in almost the next county.

Academics
academics are all round amazing. the TA's are young and helpful and the most of the professors I've had made themseleves available to students outside of class. there is a lot of career counselors for people like me that don't know what they are going to do.

Student Body
like I said, lots of shallow people, lots of useless people that should have just continued living off their parents trust fund. and if you do your research a lot of people aren't going to well academically.

also, there are lots of places in Coral Gables to get jobs. for example, there is tons of law offices, firms of all sorts, business jobs. I was lucky enough to get a part time at a law firm were I work 20 hours a week - it's chill and I make good money.

In Closing...
I decided to come here because I live so close (I sometimes ride my bike to school). I've made amazing friends (my roommate is from Alaska). I party some weekends, and others I sit at home and study my brains. if you're on an academic scholarship you'll be cautious of your grades. it's a great experience but I would have loves to get out of Miami and I plan to transfer after I study abroad next semester. I don't like the big city as much as it seems.
