Introduction
Do everything early. Apply early, turn in your enrollment depoist early, get an early orientation date, buy football tickets early. Doing everything early will result in better housing, better choices of classes, better seats, etc. Don't be too judgemental. There are so many different people on campus, you have to lose the stereotypes and be aware that just because someone is Asian, doesn't mean that he's smart.

Campus Life and Social Life
Best:
1. MICHIGAN FOOTBALL is AMAIZNG!! what ever you do, GET TICKETS! even if you don't like/understand football, if you don't get tickets, you'll be the only one around on campus on Saturday afternoons. The expeience is so awesome, and the stadium is breathtaking.
2. pretty much every other michigan sport is great, every sport is very competitive, especially men's hockey games, which are almost as good as the football games are.
3. There are lots and lots of frat parties thurs - sat to choose from, if that's what you would like to do. If not, some people have parties in their dorm rooms.
4. there are so many cultural attractions to choose from in ann arbor, such as a variety of plays and dance shows and concerts and movies and restaurants...there is ALWAYS something to do in Ann Arbor!!
5. There are always some sort of movement or demonstration going on in the center of campus, called the Diag, like getting money for the children's hospital, free styling, Christmas caroling in French...SOOO many things!

WORST:
1. Frat parties are icky and dirty and shady
2. If you live on North Campus, you need to be on the last bus back to your dorm on north campus by 2:00am, or find a place to stay on central campus.

Academics
All departments are very strong, the engineering school is the hardest and most cut throat, and the engineers demand the most respect from students on campus. Professors hold office hours several times a week when they are available to students, and if these hours conflict, you can email the professor and ask to meet at another time/location -- they might even buy you coffee :) The liberal arts college is the most popular - LSA - College of Literature, Sciences, and the Arts - but there are a wide variety of different colleges to transfer to later, such as the department of kinesology, or the school of nursing, or the school of education. Or you can just stay in the liberal arts college! All classes are very demanding, there is a saying on campus : The University of Michigan: where your best hasn't been good enough since 1817. So, academics are very difficult, and require a lot of studying, which is not hard to accomplish because you are surrounded by other hard working , focused students, that all study as well. As for TAs - at UM we call them GSI - graduate student instructors - they vary. There are some terrible ones that smell and are foreign and can't speak English very well, and some American GSI who explain things well. You can choose which GSI you want to go to for help, so just choose wisely! But they all know what they are talking about. As for workload, you can make it easy or hard, it really depends on the class. As long as you balance your time, nothing is impossible.

Student Body
Students are from all over the world and United States. There are some typical image of girls: The JAP - Jewish American Princess. They wear tight black pants, UGG boots, big bug eyed sunglasses, and long straight hair. THere are so many types of groups, the artsy kids, the athletes....I love them all though, they are all really cool, smart, and school spirited, and easy to get along with. All love UM, that is the one thing that we can all bond on. That and our mutual hatred of Ohio State. Everyone is proud to go to UM, everyone rocks Michigan appareal, and EVERYONE loves the school, and the president, and the campus......its the IDEAL school!

In Closing...
Even though the University of Michigan is an extremely large school, don't be afraid. There are lots of MLC - Michigan Learning Communities - you can join to create a small atmosphere. For example, communities for people interested in social sciences, health science, or women in engineering. Plus, if you ever trip and fall flat on your face, or wear a horriffic looking outfit, it's allright, because you'll never see the people you're walking past ever again.
