Memoir from Minnesota

Rating: 4/5 (18 ratings)
Introduction
The school is getting a lot more competitive year after year, so you are really going to have to step up on your academics if you felt you were a shoo in before.

A student that should not attend this school, is someone who is afraid of being independent. Since there are so many students at this school, you have to be able to fend for yourself and take the initiative to seek out help when you need it. Also, I think you have to be outgoing to get along here because once again, it is so big that it is easy to get lost in the crowd.

Campus Life and Social Life
House parties are always amazing. Frats are popular at specific time (i.e. the beginning of the year and Mardi Gras). Frats are often frequented however by freshman. As you get older it is easy to find a new niche outside of "frat row."

Minnesota is in the Big 10 so the sports programs have the potential to be really good. Unfortunately, they haven't performed especially well...

There are so many student organizations at The U. I really recommend you get involved with one. Cultural organizations are great also, so if you are eligible to be in one, please do.

Weekend start Thursday for some. On this night a lot of people venture downtown to "Spin Night Club" which is 18+ on Thursdays. Other than that it's a ot of drinking and carousing the campus for something fun.
Academics
Carlson School of Management if one of the best business schools in the country. IT, the techy school, is also really great. They have gotten rid of the general college to up the prestige, which is nice. CLA is full of a lot of different major opprotunities. A famous program there would be the psychology dept. The workload is manageable if you budget your time. A few of the intro courses will be taught by TAs but it's alright.

Student Body
Although this is a cliche answer, there isn't a typical student. Most are from the Midwest...and some kind of suburb. You will find all types of students with varying interests so no one should worry about not being able to find someone who has something in common with them.

In Closing...
The U is what you make of it. It can really be amazing if you open up.
