Ole Miss Pharmacy School

Rating: 5/5 (63 ratings)
Introduction
I chose Ole Miss because it has the only pharmacy school in the state. Stay away from the pharmacy school if you don't want to do lots and lots of studying, and if you do not work well with others.

Campus Life and Social Life
Ole Miss is definitely a party school! Even in pharmacy school, we take our breaks whenever we can.. There are so many bars, and there is always a band playing somewhere. There are so many clubs to join (no matter what your interests are- I am a member of Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International, Kappa Epsilon Pharmacy Fraternity, American Pharmacists Association, and Phi Kappa Phi), and lots of people join fraternities or sororities. Weekends are fun; even though a lot of students go home for them. Ole Miss football is something every student must experience at least one time.. You have to see the Grove on game day for yourself! Girls, wear your pearls, and guys wear your Sunday best!

Academics
Pharmacy school sucks in general. A 2.75 GPA and passing grades in every class are required to pass each year, and this has affected one of my closest friends (he got an F in Med Chem). The easier subjects are pharmacy administration and pharmacy practice courses. The hardest, to me, is Medicinal Chemistry. The workload is an awful lot. It was a big transition for me from a community college. I used to hardly ever spend time on school work, but now it seems to be a huge part of my life! Dr. Repka, a pharmaceutics professor, is one of the sweetest men you will ever meet, and you will love his class! Dr. Borne is one of the tougher professors but he is retiring this year. Dr. Avery is very sweet, and her TA Nina works very hard and does a great job. All of the Pharmacy Administration faculty are super nice, especially Erin Holmes, the TA for Law. Since I have only been here for pharmacy school and have never taken any classes outside of it, I don't know much else about other departments.

Student Body
Most students here are from Mississippi or Tennessee. The typical student is either a southern Belle or a frat guy. In the pharmacy school, it is a lot different. There are a lot of older students who are married, etc. In general, we seem to be more mature and more diverse. I have made so many friends; so I will describe myself (trying not to sound too conceited) and you can see what you think (please note- I do not fit in with most of the Ole Miss population, and would most likely not be accepted into a sorority, so take this with a grain of salt- I am just saying that I fit in well with the pharmacy school). I am a friendly, easy-going girl who used to care a whole lot about her grades (I still find myself becoming competitive when I shouldn't be). I love hanging out with my friends, and I'll go along with just about anything fun (but I would not call myself a daredevil either). I love meeting new people, and I have been referred to as a ditsy blonde. I can be serious when I need to be, like when I am studying for an important test. I spend a lot of time studying, but I also love to unwind.. That is why the pharmacy school sponsors parties.

In Closing...
I am from Southern Mississippi (3 hours away from Ole Miss) and I work at a pharmacy part-time back home. I love country music, but I'll give pretty much anything a listen.
