A School for Everyone

Rating: 1/5 (62 ratings)
Introduction
I chose Mizzou because it was close to home but not too close. It's relatively affordable, although the Curators use the students as their endless stream of money. The new dorms are a ripoff, but Plaza 900 does have some amazing food.

If you are social by nature and like meeting all kinds of people, then this school is for you. If you are shy and quiet, then this school is for you too; just dont intend to stay that way.

Campus Life and Social Life
Deffinatly go Greek your first semester. College is what you make it, and going Greek is the best decision you can make here.

Even if you don't decide Greek life is for you, the Campus Life here is great. There are 450+ different student organizations for you to get involved in.

The bar scene is quite good; Even if you just want the bar food and not the alcohol. Definitely hit up Big 12 and refuse to call it Campus Bar and Grill.

Academics
The Hotel and Restaurant Mangement is really good here. A lot of football players take HRM but don't let that fool you. The classes will give you a great background for the real world. The program is slanted towards the restaurant side right now, but don't worry, by the time that y'all get here it will incorporate more hotel aspects. Look forward to taking the hotel class with Ms. Hosmer, it is easily the best class you will ever take, even if it only lasts a week.

Student Body
It's hard to describe the typical student when there are 26,000 people. Student scome from all over and from all backgrounds.

In Closing...
Be open to meeting new people. Don't get caught up in being someone you aren't, or politics. Be prepared to get frustrated with all of the red tape and inefficiency. Know that there are alot of foreign teachers and TAs here and they might be a little hard to understand.

Columbia, MO is deffinatly an odd town. I would say it's almost the Austin, TX of Missouri. It's a safe town though and surely a college town.
