Not too shabby

Rating: 4/5 (58 ratings)
Introduction
This school is most definitely a school for either: A. In-State Missouri students or, B. Journalism majors. Pretty much every person that goes here either is a Journalism major, or at one point was a Journalism major. I am a Journalism major, and every time someone asks me where I am from, and say out of state, they say "Oh, for Journalism right?" There is an ongoing brawl of people from St. Louis and Kansas City claiming their city is better, so if you have a problem with that, it can get pretty annoying. All that being said, the Journalism school is very highly ranked, I believe number 1 or 2 in the country. It is hard to get into, but in the end its worth it because the Missouri Journalism looks great on resumes.

Campus Life and Social Life
Football is pretty big, tailgates are lots of fun. I do not think that basketball is as big as football but I could be wrong. It also is a lot more annoying to get the tickets because they do not give them all to you at once like they do for football, you have to go back to the arena every couple of weeks to pick them up. But when you do go its fun. As for partying, lots of people go out. I think i read somewhere that 25% of the school is greek, but it seems to be more than that. It seems in your freshman year that everyone is greek and thats all they can talk about, but as the years go on people talk less about it is seems, and may even be less involved. The police are VERY strict. They do not let college kids get away with drinking, and pretty much that is their job, to stop kids from drinking, so the bars are not really too popular with the younger grades, but EXTREMELY popular with the older grades. When it's not the bars, it is house parties, or frat parties. The weekend starts on thursday for the most part, but many fraternity functions are held earlier in the week, so it is not shocking to go out on a Monday or Tuesday.
Academics
I am only really familiar with journalism, but like i said before, it is difficult, but have great professors. Oh but the advisors are TERRIBLE. It takes at least a couple of weeks to get in to make an appointment, unless you come to walk in hours on Fridays and wait for an hour. The business school is also good, it appears to be easy, and it is not uncommon for people to get an A+ in classes. They seem to offer a lot of extra credit, while other departments do not. Oh, and they also do not have classes on Fridays. Some TAs in general are good while others are bad. It is a toss up. If you can tell yours is going to be bad, try and switch right away, otherwise become their best friend and talk to them all of the time.

Student Body
The first thing that comes to my mind is someone from St. Louis, but obviously not everyone is from there. For the out of state kids, the popular states are Illinois, Texas, and Kansas it appears. But the Journalism school does bring in students from all across the country. Students like to go out as much as they can, and it is nice because it is not expected to dress up for class. For people who like wearing heels or dresses to class, you will probably get strange looks considering most people either roll out of bed and go as is, or just wear like sweatshirts and jeans. Very comfortable.

In Closing...
The weather is really nice, summers are long, and winters are short. Example, today my car read 72 degrees and it is the first of February. This is not normal usually, but it is much milder than most other winters. Oh, and don't say anything good about Kansas University, because that is the BIG rival here.
