True College Story
IntroductionI chose MU because of its location. Columbia has the small hometown feel yet there is an air of excitment. The downtown area is right off campus and provides clothing stores, restaurants, clubs, bars, and other great amenities. as a freshamn you have a chance to join a FIG (freshman interest group), in it are 15-20 fellow freshman that have similiar interest and/or majors as you. you have up to three classes together, so its a built in study group, and live on the same floor. It gives you a chance to constantly see a friendly and familiar face. i have made several good friends this way. And dont be afraid to just talk to someone that is standing behind oyu in the cafeteris line, you most likely find that you have a grest deal in common. The campus seems like it is fairly large, but once you get to know where everything is, and how to get to your classes, it seems much smaller.
Campus Life and Social LifeThere are many clubs and organizations you can join. MU also has speakers circle, it is where people can go and talk about anything they want without havign to censor what they say. You can see people speaking of poitics, organizations, religion, sports, and some playing music. It is a fascinating experience that lets one interact with other.
AcademicsMU is best known for the school of journalism. It is the very first one and the best in the country. However, all the colleges are very well rounded and provide a great education.
Student BodySocial life here is pretty exciting. There is always something going on, it could be a frat party or just a get together with friends. But the bes time snad the times you make with friends; otherwise, it is no fun at all. Also, come prepared to cheer on the TIGERS, we are huge supporters of our sports teams. Homecoming is probably the best week in the fall. MU is the place where Homecoming was invented, so its a huge deal. So be prepared to have a weeksworth of cheering and excitement for the upcoming game.
In Closing...As I first started looking at colleges, I became increasingly aware of how i could find a way to keep the freshman 15 off. When I first saw the recreation complez at MU, I was dumbfounded. It was built in 2005 and was voted the best in the country. They offer all kinds of classes to keep you toned and fit, several weight ares, a cardio area, lap pool, tiger grotto, and an outside pool. there are also racquetball courts, basketball courts, a walking lap, and a rock wall. As another note, the campus is pretty safe, we have stations located all over campus that are emergency notifications for teh Mu police, they arrive in a few minutes time. However, dont think that this is your only safety protection. The bes thing to do would be to use the buddy system and always walk with at least one other person if you must walk at night.
