Planning to transfer...

Rating: 4/5 (94 ratings)
Introduction
University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a great school for people who are looking for a medium-sized school. The dorm life is not too much fun if you don't like sharing. It's expensive and you have to live in the crappy (read: communal bathroom) dorms your first year. It was really hard for me. If you're really independent, it may be hard for you too. I had a pretty good time here Freshman year, but as a second- semester Sophomore, I am planning to transfer to UNO next semester.

Campus Life and Social Life
The attitude here is "party party party," so if you want to be Greek and that's what you're looking for, go for it. If you just want to come here and be a normal person who has fun with normal friends, they are hard to meet. The setup is not a very good one when it comes to communication. When there are University-sponsored events, it's rare that you hear about them. If you have always had a more mature attitude, this may not be the place for you unless you are in one of the honors programs. The cafeterias suck big time too. Gross food.

Academics
I've found that not overloading yourself with credits is key. However, it's really hard to know what classes are going to be insanely hard and which ones aren't. A lot of times it's luck of the draw. I was practically a straight-A student in high school, and there have been certain classes here that I have struggled to pass. Science classes are really hard. Geology was the worst. Stay away from Dr. Nan. Economics is really hard as well.

Student Body
The typical student here is White, blonde, fake-tan and Greek. The Greek system here is bursting at the seams. If that's not your thing... you'll get used to being surrounded by it quickly. You don't really have a choice. Some of the people are great, don't get me wrong. There are naturally a lot of Husker freaks here too. The games are a lot of fun and I'm not even a football fan. I'd say the student body is pretty eclectic though. I see a lot of the Greeks, but there are lots of foriegn exchange students too, especially of Asian descent.

In Closing...
If you are looking for the COLLEGE EXPERIENCE and you want to party and be really social, join the Greek system and you'll have a blast. If you want to be in the Honors program and really dedicate yourself to school, you can find success here. However, if you are a middle of the road, more independent person, this may not be the school for you. Good luck!
