UNLV is awesome...

Rating: 4/5 (36 ratings)
Introduction
I wanted a school on or near the west coast but still far enough from home to be away at college. It is decent academically but they are right when they say it is commuter school, our student communited from all over the greater Las Vegas area. If you want a "typical" college experience then don't come here, but if like being outside the norm then send in your stuff.

Campus Life and Social Life
Socially, it is good and bad. It seems like if you live on campus your first year or two you get better opportunity to meet people (most of my friends lived down the hall and next door). Atleast, from my experience people are pretty friendly and there is something for everybody to get into. The bad part is that seems as that all the fun is off campus (if your not in the dorms) and you need to be twenty one (Las Vegas strip and etc). For more positive, there are plenty of greek, academic, cultural, and student body clubs for students to get involved in. Our sports teams are not that great but our basketball program is our claim to fame, and were good this year. All in all, I had big fun on and off UNLV's campus and coming in to college and really leaving college I was somewhat of an introvert. At UNLV more or less if you want it, something for everybody.
Academics
I know our hotel/hospitality college is one of the country's best. I can't speak on any departments in detail but I majored in public relations in the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs and it was great. The professors are pretty accesible and well help you get the grade you want if you show that you care (make your self visible to them, it works!) The work load seems about average in quantity and difficulty

Student Body
There is no typical student at this school. We have it all jocks, partiers, greeks, stoners, study- hards, international, the whole box of crayons. It seems that students come to UNLV from all over the country. I can here thinking it was going to be all Nevada and Cali people but I was wrong. Rebels came from all over the country. It seemed like everyone here made friends and found there social niche.

In Closing...
UNLV is great and I will die and kill for this school. I had the greatest 4 years of mylife and I recommend this school to anybody. Were getting better all the time in big time city. We learn in a lot in classromm and in the playing field of life (Las Vegas...), and have fun. UNLV is in it's own way the total package.
