Introduction
For me, Carolina was by far my number one choice. Not only is it a great school environment, but the campus is amazing and the school spirit creates an autonomy you'll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else! With its beautiful huge oaks and neo-renassiance architecture you'll feel like you're in a movie about a college campus rather than on the actual campus! UNC was the first public university EVER and still remains at the top of the list when considering schools to go to. It's the perfect size and fit for just about anyone.

Campus Life and Social Life
When thinking about Carolina campus life, the first thing that comes to mind is SPORTS. During the fall, you'll find a sea of blue at Kenan stadium as we cheer on the football team and throughout the winter, BASKETBALL RULES. We won the 2005 NCAA championship and that was one of the most memorable nights in Carolina history. People stormed Franklin Street (the main street running through Chapel Hill) cheering and screaming 'til almost dawn. When you're in a crowd like that, you feel completely unified with your school and community. But everyone cheers on some sports- even Club Sports attract a group of fans- the Ceiling Fans are a good example of a group that is present at almost every single sporting event on campus- literally! Carolina also has a great Greek environment with nine sororities and 11 fraternities. Rush is a blast in the fall and the houses set you up for great friendships, great food (each sorority house has a chef!) and a place to call home. It's another way the campus is made smaller and less overwhelming for individual students.

Weekends generally start on Thursday night and continue on until early Sunday morning. There are a ton of activities for the under-21 crowd, too, including concerts at Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, Monday night trivia at a local bookstore/coffee shop, and plenty of on-campus activities. What makes the area great is that there is so much going on at any one time you can always find something! And of course, Time Out is famous for being a 24 hour diner.
Academics
Carolina has one of the best undergraduate Nursing, Pharmacy, and Biology departments in the country. Add in business and you're on your way to understanding what makes this school so amazing. But it also hosts some of the world's foremost art experts in the Art History department, and amazing writers in the UNC Creative Writing Program. Carolina is at its heart a liberal arts college and shows that with great philosophy, history and English programs as well as being such a great science arena. Undergraduates can get funding from most departments to travel abroad within their major. Located beside a great research hospital, and with access to Duke and NC-State's libraries, UNC stands out as an academic mecca. You can major in just about anything and find someone else doing the same. Some people are even allowed to make up their own major!

Student Body
Describing the "typical" student at UNC is extremely difficult. There are goth people, plenty of preppy Southern people, emos, hipsters, nerds, jocks, and everything in between. On an average spring day you'll see people dressed in shorts or jeans and polo shirts with flip flops and a tote bag to carry their stuff. But UNC is a place where people can fully experiment in how they dress and what kind of persona they want to give off without losing face.

In Closing...
When I think of Carolina, I think of classes but I also think of the places on campus that will forever be in my heart. The Pit for between class meetings and lunch, the Old Well (drink out of it on the first day of class and get good grades!) outdoor programs at the Forest Theater. I think of Saturday afternoons spent laughing and cheering at Kenan stadium and winter nights hanging out at He's Not or Linda's to watch the basketball games. I think of the beautiful parks located all around for weekend activities like biking or hiking. And I remember our campus song:
Hark the sound of Tar Heel Voices
Ringing clear and true
Singing Carolina's Praises
Shouting N-C-U! N-C-U!
Hail to the Brightest star of all
Clear its radiance shine
Carolina priceless gem
Receive all praises thine
I'm a tar heel born I'm a Tar Heel Bred
And when I die I'm a Tar Heel Dead
So it's RAH RAH CAR'LINA LINA
RAH RAH CAR"LINA LINA
GO TO H*** DUKE!
