UNC-CH

Rating: 5/5 (13 ratings)
Introduction
There are over 600 student organizations and a thriving fraternity and sorority community on campus. Getting involved helps UNC seem more like a family andgives it a smaller, more cozy atmosphere. There's a lot to do, the campus is gorgeous (despite the construction which will make it even better!), and the diversity is growing.

Campus Life and Social Life
5 Best Things
1. Great social life on and off campus. Residence halls have great theme functions. There are just as many non-alcoholic functions as there are bars on any given weekend. The Greek community provides a great social outlet as well.
2. 600+ student organizations - anything and everything you want to do for fun.
3. Athletics is top notch! Great sports teams - the stadiums and Smith center are packed and its even hard to get tickets. TONS of school spirit.
4. People stay around on the weekends. When its hot though, students love to hit the beach. When its cold, there are lots of ski trips. We're situated half way between both in the middle of the state. 2 hours each way and you hit ocean or mountains!
5. There is such a variety of things to do. And a decent diversity of cultural events. A new arts center and performing arts series provide great exposure to new types of entertainment from around the country and around the world.

5 Worst Things
1. There's a % cap on out-of-state students so you don't meet as many people from outside of North Carolina.
2. Sometimes the focus can be too much on "uptown" or the bars in Chapel Hill (though they are fun for the 21+ crowd).
3. Duke is too close to us (our arch rival!).
(ok, so thats only 3!)

Academics
Its hard to describe the academics here. The sense I get is that faculty are extremely well-connected and nationally renown. They are serious about their research and their work and attempt to provide a good classroom experience. Journalism and the Business School are nationally ranked and challenging. The sciences are steadily becoming stronger and more popular. Overall, the College of Arts and Sciences is the largest.

Student Body
Most students are from North Carolina. And diversity is growing and becoming more embraced. There are no typical students here. They are all trendy, southern and polite for the most part. Smiles are everywhere, and people seem genuinely engaged in campus life and academia. Even the faculty seem to really enjoy it here, and that makes the students happy!

In Closing...
Carolina is an excellent school and seems to pump out some really well rounded students. Great fun, good times and a solid education with lots of skills you pick up along they way. The more you take advantage of the extracurricular opportunities, the more fun you have and the better your chances of a great job to go along with that UNC degree! Go HEELS!
