Catholic, Conservative and Tradition
IntroductionIf you are considering Notre Dame, make sure you research it well! It's a Catholic school with conservative policies and traditions. I choose it because of its good name and reputation, and I grew up watching Notre Dame football in my house. If you aren't willing to at least try getting into sports, or are bothered by religion (in particular, Catholics), you probably don't belong here.
Campus Life and Social LifeSports here are huge. Obviously football is the center of our lives on many weekends, but there are constantly other sports events going on. Student government is active, however it isn't a huge deal here at all. Weekends are what you make out of them, but if you are "normal," plan on hanging around and drinking with friends. In the dorms though, the parties end at 2am, because that's when members of the opposite sex are not allowed in the dorms anymore. They're easy rules to break, at least in the guys dorms.

AcademicsThe classes are definitely hard, especially engineering and the sciences. If you want good grades, you have to work real hard.
Student BodyThe typical student is white, mid-to-upper class, and from the Midwest. There are a lot of students from everywhere though, but we basically have the same all-American background. Diversity? What's diversity? Also, the art and music scene here is lacking big time. Cool bands pass through, but people don't actually go to see them. The students are mostly into sports, school, drinking, and Jesus.
In Closing...Notre Dame is a great place, in a great environment, if you are or like white, Catholic people. Everyone is really helpful and the school runs incredibly smoothly. Sure, its lacking the edgyness of a lot of schools, but we like being in our wonderful bubble.
