Ben Franklin: Big Man on Campus

Rating: 2/5 (77 ratings)
Introduction
Benjamin Franklin is the founder of Penn. He’s really popular around here. He wanted to create a school, where people could learn other things besides religious studies and about God, so he wanted to create a liberal arts education. And so he created Penn. He wanted people to learn math, science, and English and, religion and there wasn’t a school like that before Penn.

Campus Life and Social Life
The social life at Penn is amazing. It’s really extensive especially for an Ivy League school. I definitely think we have the best social life on any of the Ivies. There’s the frat scene and sorority scene which is really fun. Not everyone has to be in a frat to be part of that scene. So that’s nice its not like exclusive or anything. There’s also like downtown parties where we go and Penn will like rent out a club…and kids will go. It’s a really fun time, you dance, and then there’s also like tons of extracurricular things to get involved in. Dance and art groups and singing groups and sports groups. And there’s always like some sort of performance going on, on one of the weekends.

Academics
I think the students are more balanced. People are more focused on academics, obviously you know that’s a big part, in order to get in you have to have good grades, but there’s like so many other interests, whether that be like music or sports or art. I feel like Penn doesn’t just want all kids with 1600’s and 4.0’s to come here. They want people that will diversify the school and like to offer something different and new.

Student Body
I think the great thing about Penn is there’s not one type of kid that fits in here, there’s definitely like a place for everyone, every type of kid. I would say that really Penn likes well-rounded kids that are involved in other things aside from their academics. They like kids that have other interest and other passions. As long as you meet that criteria I feel like Penn could be a good place for you. But there’s not one type of kid that Penn likes to take.

In Closing...
We’re a school of firsts. We had the first computer, the first student union, the first two tiered stadium. So we’re very progressive which is like a cool thing. First woman president. There’s like a million things we were first in.
