Very Social
IntroductionI think far and away its much more social than most of the Ivy League schools. It’s a lot more diverse as far the kind of people here. You’ll meet all kinds of different people from all over the place. There are lot of international students as well as kids from all over the US. And the party scene is really good compared to most of the Ivy League schools. It’s definitely a big school so you develop your own cliques within the social scene here.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe campus does everything it can to ensure your safety here. There’s lots of rumors that West. Philadelphia is this terribly dangerous place. But really I find its more of this community to embrace rather than be scared of.Also Penn has things called 898 ride and 898 walk where you can call this number anytime and be escorted by a car or by a policeman to any place on campus that you want. So they ensure that the campus is really safe. They also have these blue light phones that are on every single corner so if your every feel unsafe at any time at you can come pick up these phones and immediately a camera shoots down on you from this control center so they know exactly where you are, exactly what’s happening with you, within a couple of minutes there’ll be policemen on the scene to make sure you’re doing all right.

AcademicsLiving here is pretty expensive, it just kinds of depends what you do. If you stay on campus it seems a lot cheaper. You can normally walk into a frat house and get free drinks and have a free party. But if you’re going downtown like a lot of people do, you have to pay cover charges to get into clubs, pay for the cabs, go downtown for dinner. It can be cheap or expensive depending on how you want to do it. The cheese steaks are amazing. There pretty good midday just for a snack, but when its 4 in the morning and you and your friends get a craving for Pat’s and Gino’s and you go down there. They are the most amazing things you will ever taste in your life. I definitely recommend it with cheese whiz and onions. The cheese steaks are all they are cracked up to be.
Student Body30% of the university goes Greek. They really tend to dominate the party scene and the social scene on campus. If that’s not the way you want to go though, there’s plenty of different opportunities for social scenes. The school is big enough where, there about 30 frats, so there’s always frat stuff going on, but also small enough that you’re not going to be kicked out of a party because you’re not in that fraternity. Everybody’s pretty easy going about that. Although Greek life is a large part of life on campus its not something you have to do.
