URI
IntroductionURI is basically the school that instate students come to to avoid RIC and CCRI. It is the school that out of staters come to because they couldn't get in anywhere else. It is one big hill in little Kingston, RI; which itself is in rural farmland. Car or lots of spending cash will be your lifeline when you first come here because it is so rural. It you have a really out-going personality, you could survive by making friends and heading down the line. If you are shy, I suggest a smaller school in a city.
Campus Life and Social LifeURI is known to be a party school, but it is a dry campus so it is losing that rep. On weekends, students get drunk. There is nothing better to do. They either get drunk secretly in their dorm rooms, go to a hockey game drunk, get drunk and go clubbing in providence, or go down the line (aka down rt 108) to go to an off-campus party. So if you like to party, you'll like URI.
The Greek system is exceptionally good though. It is one of the best on the East coast. They might party, but they do many other things that actually help the community and help themselves in return.

AcademicsURI is know for its pharmacy, engineering, and nursing programs. I hear they are super hard. I myself am a history major and it is super easy, too easy for a former college prep student with excelsior honors. Stay away if you are in the liberal arts and want a good education unless you can make the best out of it.
The Theatre program is really great though and i suggest URI if you are looking into it.
Most teachers I have had want you to learn and understand. The workloads are mad easy though.
Student BodyAround 2005, less than half the students at URI were from RI. They are getting closer to 50% though. Other than that the rest are from Mass, NJ, Ct, and NY. Every now and then you meet someone from FL or VA.
The students like to drink. Otherwise they like to study, but that is just a small amount.
In Closing...URI can be a good school if you can deal with all the cons, that is why the have around a 40% graduation rate. It has one of the highest instate tuitions, is in the middle of nowhere, and could offer alot more academically.
But if you find a sport, greek organization, or club that you like, you could survive for 4 plus years.
