UR a Great Fit for Some
IntroductionWhen looking at Richmond, it is easy to be overcome by the beauty of the campus and the quality of the facilities. There are plenty of thoughtful professors, staff, and other students. However, UR is a small school, and is not a place from which a student will benefit if they seek to wash into the crowd. There are oodles of opportunities to get involved, and many students do so as well as double or triple major. Make sure you approach Richmond for what it is, and not just any old college. If you are passionate about something, the UR is your place.
Students who aren't interested in being involved to better their institution might not find there best environment at Richmond.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe largest single social clustering is probably the greek system. However, there are 250+ clubs/orgs, and the small nature of the campus makes the formation of friend groups easy. People can be found partying in on-campus apartments.
Basketball is the best sport available, but there is a lot of alumni support for football as well.
Most people stay on campus over the weekends. Not a suitcase campus.

AcademicsTAs are nonexistant... well, perhaps for foreign languages. Classes are usually less than 25. Less than 10 intro courses might have 60-80.
Professors are very committed, and will put in the time if you demonstrate that you care. They all strive to memorize names.
Some departments are stronger than others. Business Administration is the largest major, followed by the various sciences, english, etc.
Student BodyAround 2/3 of UR students are fairly homogenous. They may be in a fraternity or sorority. The other 1/3 are all over the board. There are students from 50 or countries, an increasing minority population, and from all 50 states. Highest concentrations from PA, CT, NY, NJ, VA.
My experience was with the non-typical UR student, and I thought it was great. There is plenty of room for any kind of person--just not someone who isn't looking for a small school with involved faculty and staff.
In Closing...Richmond definitely empowered me to change the university and myself. The organizational opportunities present are far-reaching and meaningful. The students are intelligent and hard working.
Altogether, for someone looking to be involved with their school, UR is a good choice.
