Anything you would ever want to know about the Cocks!

Rating: 1/5 (90 ratings)
Introduction
The University of South Carolina has many different aspects to it. There are good and bad but the coolest thing about this school smack in the middle of the capital of the state is the diversity. Granted, most big state schools have a good range of different people attending, but with our spread out campus you are sure to see hundreds of different people and events everyday! First off, don't attend this school if you don't like warm weather. The campus is spread out across 2 or 3 miles and during the spring and summer months the heat walking from class to class can really get to you. If you don't like big classes and meeting new people you probably shouldn't attend either! There will always be something going on on this campus and being a part of it is a great college experience. If you aren't going to attend the events then it isn't worth spending the time or money at this University. One of the other most important things about USC is the education obviously. Having one of the top business schools in the world is very helpful but all our other majors are just as great. We have Sports/Entertainment Management, Hotel/Tourism Management, Journalism (visual, written and electronic) and any type of Liberal Art you could ever ask for! And probably the other BEST part of this school is the state scholarships that are awarded to students who graduate from high school in South Carolina!

Campus Life and Social Life
The social life at USC is very hard to top. First, we are in the center of a metropolitan city so there is always something going on. It is said that I go to a school where in a matter of 2 miles you can go to class, buy alcohol at Greene's, get a fake ID made at Kinkos, eat dinner at Sonic, grab some Greek affiliates at the Greek Village and then bar hop at the 20-25 bars in 5 Points! There is always something to do on our campus whether you enjoy alcohol, movies, speakers, house parties or sit laying low with some friends. The best part of the campus/social life is Carolina Productions. This is the programming board on campus that books speakers, entertainment, concerts, movies and many other ways to experience the entertainment world and it is all free. The university has had people from Al Franken to Kanye West and all that is in between!
As for sports...I mean we are the Gamecocks. You will never find another place where you find over 80,000 people in one place yelling the word COCK at each other and not getting beer dumped on them. Football season is the best time to be at school and then during the spring we have our basketball team playing at the wonderful Colonial Center and then our National Ranked baseball team selling out games day after day.
Without all of these great things that are just a quick walk away at the University of South Carolina it wouldn't be the same. So again, whether it is bars/clubs, movies and other entertainment outlets, sports or even a low key experience this is the school that offers it all, every day and night!

Academics
As stated above when you speak about USC academics the first thing ever said is our Moore Business School! It is one of the best in the world and tops itself every year. Along with just the normal business school we have an outstanding International Business school that many students apply for every year. One of the prerequisites to become part of the section is being bilingual, something that is seen as a great feat. Also we have Entertainment majors for those who aspire to be managers, producers, talent representives, store owners, sport coaches and directors or even wedding planners. We also have one of the biggest Art and Science programs in the state giving students the opportunity to major in things from Criminal Justice to Theater. Another college that is most popular is the School of Journalism and Mass Communications. With an Emmy Award winning Dean the classes are obviously going to be worth attending. With a Senior Semester hands on experience before you're allowed to graduate, students leave with the right knowledge and preparation for the real world. As for professors and TA's, individually it is hard to get a basic synopsis. www.ratemyprofessor.com gives a great, clear-cut idea of who to take and who not to take. Most students won't make their class schedule without looking at the site to get an idea on who to take if the choice is available. Personally, I have run into amazing professors that I have taken semester after semester and then professors that I would never wish upon my friends. It is an experience nonetheless and makes your college time better and more fulfilling!

Student Body
One could never name a "typical" student at the University of South Carolina. We are about 23% Greek life, so you are bound to see tons of girls and guys walking around campus in their greek letters and jerseys. We have the Greek houses so it keeps their living situation seperate from the rest of the student body but it is still a much seen thing on campus. We have about every sports team known to mankind so you will always see some sort of SC combination on a t-shirt or sweatshirt giving that particular student a definition of their sport playing abilities. Then you have everything from your Student Council students to your Christian Life student. But the BEST thing about this campus is that everyone can be all of the stereotypes. The President of Greek Life is a Senator for the Student Council, an officer in the Impact Bible Study and a part of the intramural sports team. So there is never any sort of discrimination in any way, shape or form. Because it is a big state school the majority of your students will be from in-state but because of our very appealing business program students from all over the world come and share their life and college time with us. You will find a lot of country music lovers but then again Motley Crew also sold out the same venue that sold out Kenny Chesney. Anyone and everyone will find a group and an experience at USC!

In Closing...
Lastly, USC will be an experience for anyone who attends. No one will ever be let down for the fact that something new will be learned everyday on this campus. If you work it right, you will meet a new friend on your way to class, join a new club during your lunch break, make weekend plans while talkin' with class members and score a ticket to the sports event from your neighbor in your dorm or apartment. You will find a great boyfriend or girlfriend as well because the majority of your students have the southern charm that everyone loves. And as ESPN says...""If South Carolina isn't the essence of southern hospitality, I don't know what is. Those women sure know how to dress. Of course, in the south, a college football game is practically a formal event. Everyone, especially the ladies, gets all dolled up. But USC takes it to a whole new level. That football crowd is like something you would see in Vogue magazine."

The grammar, spelling and word choice in this review is terrible. I can't believe that we attend the same school.
