The school of the COCK

Rating: 4/5 (44 ratings)
Introduction
Part of why I chose USC was because it's WARM -- I'm from out of state. However, I learned that it's a whole different culture down here, in the South. "Northerners" don't always fit in the best at first, but generally everyone does. I do know a lot of out of staters who transferred though. Southern hospitality isn't all its cracked up to be...

Campus Life and Social Life
If you ever want to go to a party, EVER, there's one going on. Even if you're not in a sorority/frat there's generally plenty to do... or you can crash a frat party anyway.

There's lots of clubs to join, even liberal ones like a feminist club, environmentalist club, along with ones for Latinos, African Americans, and lots more too.

Football season is amazing. Tickets are free and Williams Brice is the only place to be on football Saturdays. Non-football Saturdays in the fall a lot of people go home, though.

Academics
Academics aren't the strong point here unless you're in Pharmacy or Int'l Business. I guess they're average though. I don't know what departments suck; I've taken lots of science classes, anthropology, and Spanish and I have no real complaints.

I've had many good profs, no real southern accents or anything like that! TAs are really good, at least all of mine have been. They are realistic and helpful. Workload just depends on what your major is, and what grades you want. Even if you're a double major double minor pre-med student, you will still have time to party on weekends.

It's not too hard to get to know professors in the big classes because most people don't really try to. All you have to do is ask questions, go to office hours, email questions, etc. If you try to, you can. DO that if you need recommendation letters!!!

Student Body
The student body in general is very preppy. I guess it's a Southern thing. There are a lot of in-staters, obviously, but also a lot of out of staters. Most out of staters are from the northeast, esp. New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and also Ohio. Id say every state is represented, even Iowa.

Not everybody is preppy though.. there are plenty of hippies and nerds and what have you; it's a good mix. You'll be able to find lots of friends.

People are pretty friendly in general, and most everybody parties and goes to football games.

In Closing...
If nothing else, we have the best mascot in the country! U-S-C, GOOOOOO COCKS!
