Where There is No "Typical" Student
IntroductionA high school student that is considering USC, should be informed of a few little things. First, the campus is pretty big and spread out. If you are lazy, morbidly obese, or otherwise immobile, I would not suggest USC because depending on where you live and where your classes are and how fast you walk up stairs and hills, you could be looking at a 5-35 minute walk from class to class or dorm to class or whatever. However, if you are pre-med, pre-law, pharmacy, marine biology, business, international business, or an HRTM major, USC IS FOR YOU. If you want to be in a fraternity or sorority, USC has a huge greek life program. If you don't give a care about buying friends and paying for greek life parties that you could attend anyway, you need not fear! There are 20 thousand other students living on campus that feel the same way!
Campus Life and Social LifeOur sports programs are big events here at South Carolina. Each team that represents the school has bragging rights and are fun to watch. Our facilities are top knotch. This school has the potential to be a BIG party school. About 1 block off campus, there is this nice place called "5 points" which is basically where 5 streets come together and there is nothing but bars and dance clubs and places selling alcohol. Some dorms are tough on rules about certain substances, but most likely, all students are treated like adults and there is no problem unless things get out of control. USC has over 280 registered campus organizations. This allows everyone the opportunity to get involved somewhere. There are religious organizations, cinematic arts clubs, musical groups, honor societies, and everything else including a chess club and a Vietnamese club. Weekends are filled with activities put on by Carolina Productions which bring in famous names such as Kanye West, Candace Bushnell, and the cast of The Real World.

AcademicsUSC is ranked #1 nationally for International Business. It is ranked #2 nationally for Business. Our Law Program is in the top 100. The Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism program is ranked #9. We have a noteable Pharmacy program and Pre-Med Program. The Marine Biology program is ranked very high, as well as the Political Science prorgam. Like every school, there are professors that suck and those that are "easy" and those that are just plain cool. The TAs take attendance and answer most of your questions and concerns. Your workload is only as heavy as you make it.
Student BodyThere is no typical student here at USC. We have Asians, southerners, yankees, Texans, west coast people, midwestern people, Mormons, Jews, Catholics, Protestants, Europeans, South Americans, Africans, and the list goes on. There are students that care about their academics (I myself have a 4.0) and those that are just here to have a good time. Most people try to have a healthy balance between the two.
In Closing...There is a ridiculous amount of restaurants on campus....Taco Bell, Burger King, Some Greek Place, Pandini's Italian, Zia, SubConnection, Pizza Hut, the GMP (sounds like gimp, stands for general market place and offers subs/wraps, salads, burritos, sushi, and the hot line which has Chicken Fingers and Curly Fries every Wednesday), there is a side walk cafe, and several dorms have their own cafeteria inside.
