Look Beyond the Brand Name Schools!
IntroductionThe coolest thing about this school is that it isn't one of the Florida schools you always hear about. Mostly, it's UF, FSU, Miami, not usually USF. But USF is definitely one of the coolest schools ever. One of the big things i considered was the location of USF. The area immediately around USF is populated, but not dangerously crowded (like it is at UF). Plus, there are tons of things to do around Tampa. So I'd say to consider the location of the schools that you are considering and whether you want to follow the norm or go your own way.
Campus Life and Social LifeIt really doesn't matter which school you go to, there is going to be partying. People say that UF is one of the biggest party schools in the nation, but i've been to more parties here at USF than half my UF friends combined. It really depends. If you are the party person, all you have to do is become friends with some upperclassmen and people that live off campus. The best thing you can do is become friends with the people in your classes and in you dorm, or apartment complex, and find out what is going on each night.
About the clubs, I haven't been to any myself, yet, but I've heard that they are loads of fun. Ybor city is just a whole bunch of clubs all put together, so if you're the club time person, Tampa is definetely the place for you.

AcademicsThis school is very strong academically. I think we have the best average GPA's in the nation. Every department is pretty good, except for the math department. Since a lot of math, after algebra or pre-calc, is extremely difficult, the classes are taught by the really smart people. The only problem is most of the teachers are foreign, so they have some trouble speaking English. If you can understand the book, or the notes that they write on the board, then you'll be good, but if you rely on hearing things, then you'll struggle in higher-level math courses.
Student BodyA lot of students are obviously from Florida, many from right around the Tampa area. There are a lot of students that commute to USF from home, but there are also many that live on campus. You'd also be surprised how many people are from out of state. For example, in my girlfriend's dorm suite, like half of the girls are from out of state. It's pretty cool to meet someone from New Hampshire and ask them how the heck they chose USF out of all schools.
No matter what your interests are, you can definitely find some people here at USF that have the same interests that you do. You just have to be patient and talk with people. One of the cool things is Facebook, kinda like a college-based MySpace. There are tons of groups on there for everything from Anti-Bush to Lacrosse lovers, there's a group for practically anything. That's a great way to meet new people.
In Closing...USF IS THE BEST SCHOOL EVER!!! GO BULLS!!!
