Fight On!

Rating: 3/5 (29 ratings)
Introduction
USC was my first choice because of its AMAZING theatre school. In the heart of Los Angeles, USC students are given something that only the kids in NYC can't be jealous of. We have one of the best football teams in the country, which is another reason why SC was my first choice. We have free access to the science museum, Natural History Museum, and Rose Garden all across the street from campus, not to mention the great celeb sitings at Shrine which is across the street as well - I can even see it from my dorm room! While a lot of people (mainly parents) are skeptical of the location, you know...the heart of South Central, USC has one of the most beautiful campuses I have ever seen. It's only a 20 minute drive to the beach or Hollywood or as little as a 10 minute drive to LAX. If you're thinking about coming to SC, visiting the school (or any school for that matter) is the most important thing to do. The vibe you get the minute you get out of that rental car tells you everything. There were some schools that I was in love with and dead set upon going to until I visited the campus, and realized I didn't feel comfortable there. Not that USC is not a huge party school, but coming here, you have to expect to work hard. Work hard to play hard.

Campus Life and Social Life
As part of the Greek system at USC, your social life is pretty much handed to you on a golden platter! And even if you're not Greek, which a lot of the students are, there are so many people and so many clubs and organizations to join, that you'll love it. I lived on the Cinema Floor my freshman year and I was the only girl that rushed. While I didn't hang out with the girls, my roomate and I became fast friends with the guys on the floor, about 1/4 of whom had rushed as well. It didn't matter that some of us were Greek and some were not, the only thing that mattered was that we all loved making films, acting in films, pretty much anything that had to do with the arts. USC provides such opportunities for students to meet other people who are interested in the same things. I know that even though I'll live on The Row next year, I'll still be able to stay friends with the people from my floor. Just because you're Greek doesn't mean you can't have friends who aren't! Also, the parties are AWESOME. No matter what day it is, you can always find a party somewhere whether it's at The Mansion, Menlo, Ellendale, The Row or in any of the dorms: USC has a party for everyone!
Academics
As a theatre majo, I am exempt from taking math (THANK GOD). But, there are still other general education requirements. Mostly they are fun and only slightly challenging classes. The science ones, however, make me want to hurl. Also the dreaded Writing 140 class which EVERYONE has to take, is possibly the biggest waste of time. Except for these irritating and useless classes, the academics at SC are fantastic. The professors are always willing and avaliable to meet with students, even just to talk. TAs are only used for the large GE classes and never take the place of the professor. The workload is pretty intense, but it usually focuses on your major so it doen't feel like work.

Student Body
I'm not sure if there is any one thing to say about the student body here. There are so many different people, that you can't lump them all into one group. As far as I can tell, the only days where people look sad here are during finals and when it rains ...so hardly ever!

In Closing...
I guess in closing, the only thing I have to say is that there is nowhere else I would rather be for my college career. I'm looking forward to three more glorious years here, and then even more once I graduate and become part of the Trojan Family. Trojan stick together! FIGHT ON!
