Great School: Bad Neighborhood

Rating: 4/5 (29 ratings)
Introduction
I applied to USC because I was interested in the film school. It was sort of a very last minute decision for me, but I actually never thought I’d come here.

Campus Life and Social Life
I thought the campus itself was very beautiful. I was a little wary of the area surrounding it. It is had a very home feeling…like it is very much contained together. I mean, I love it. I think it’s beautiful. The weather is perfect and nice. I think it makes the school have a little more school spirit just because you are so close together. It’s not so spread out, and everyone is kind of in the same area at the same time. It’s just like a friendly atmosphere. Because when you step off campus it’s a lot different than on campus, it actually creates more school spirit because you are actually together more and you see people that you know…and everyone is happy to be here.
Academics
I think the film program at USC is the best thing I have ever been a part of. It’s so incredible. All the professors, all the classes. It’s just really high quality, and I mean it’s just one of the best in the country. I love it. My film classes I am taking now, since I just became a major, are a little bit of the bigger classes, and we have TAs. But as you get more advanced in it, it becomes a little more intimate, and you are starting to make films and be more involved in stuff. I’ve had good experiences with TAs. I think it’s like having a good teacher or bad teacher, sometimes you click with them and sometimes you just don’t. I mean, I love them. I think they are just great.

Student Body
There is such a diverse group. I’ve met some of the most talented people I know at this school. You know, the film department and the theater department, everyone wants to be in LA for this. You find frat guys, but what school doesn’t have those?

In Closing...
I am a little more active in the theater world than I am in the film world, but I know that everyone knows each other, it’s like a small little world. Everyone is working in each other’s student films. They are working in each other plays. It’s like a little community. Come here if you want to do Arts because you are going to have so many opportunities to find internships, or work on films, or work in plays.
