sorority sucks
Rating: 4.9/5 (97 ratings)
IntroductionThe reason I picked to come to USC is because when I was graduating from high school, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. USC has so many majors that are very well known. There is such a large family of people and good connections that is the main reason I wanted to come here. There is such a broad scope of majors that are all so good.
I came from a family where everyone was Trojans. My mom and my sister were both in the Greek system. Because of that, I felt like it was something that I should do. So I came here, and I RUSHed, and it was an absolutely horrible experience. It was so fake. It was like dressing up, putting on a show, so that I could find my friends. It was terrible. After I didn’t get into the sorority I wanted to, I was crushed. But now that I look back on it 4 years later, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. There are so many different schools, and architecture is one of those schools that there is such a tight group of people that everyone single one of my best friends sit around me in the 5 desks around me. It’s like a family. And that is what a sorority is. Being in a small school like, that you get your own sorority, with your own people who are just like you.
Campus Life and Social LifeDays when there are football games at USC, the place turns into a circus. I hate football. I do go to the games because it’s so much fun. You get together with all your friends, have a barbeque, have a few drinks, sit on the lawn, and get wasted. My parents come to it, my sister comes to it. All of their friends come. It’s like a huge reunion and party. I imagine when I graduate I will still be going. And when I have kids I’ll still bring them even if they don’t like football. It’s just a fun event that brings people together to party and hang out.
AcademicsThere are exceptions, but I do feel like this a school where people are style conscious, and they do care about how they look. The general student population is very good looking. I hear that USC has the cutest girls around town and UCLA has all the hot guys. As far as style, if you want to go out and see what the new styles are, you should definitely come around here. Once when I was downstairs with Cory, there were people that came to us and interviewed us from a Style network because they were interviewing people for the new, hot styles. It’s not a huge issue. But especially in the Greek system, everyone has their designer purses, and their designer clothes. In the Arts school, people are funkier.
Student BodyAs a woman in this area, when I was a freshman, I didn’t think there was any problem. I was young, and I didn’t think that anything would ever happen to me. I’ve lived downtown for 3 years, and 2 of my apartments have gotten robbed. One of my friends has gotten held up by gunpoint. But the truth is I don’t think that happens just as USC, I think it happens at every university. Because of the surrounding area, I think it is always an issue, but that happens everywhere. Because people think that is such a big deal here, the campus police are always out patrolling. We are in an unsafe area, but USC is such a confined campus. We have a gate and it’s locked. But I try not to walk alone at night. I mean it’s just a part of life.
In Closing...USC, now that I am about to graduate, looking back on my 5 years here, has given me a very well-rounded education. I think the connections here are amazing. You can go to somewhere and say you are from USC, and you see people’s faces light up because it has such a good reputation. Within your major, they hold career fairs, especially in architecture. You get to meet with firms that want to hire you because you are coming from a top school. And I think that has a lot to say. That has given me huge opportunities as far as internships, jobs when I graduate, and confidence coming out. I know that I came from a stable school that has provided me with everything I could ask for.
