A Bargain
IntroductionOne of the main reasons I chose to come to UT-Austin was because of the bargain. The price you pay (about 3600 a semester) for the education you receive is unbelievable. An education like this at most other schools will cost you about three times as much. Also, once you are in, almost anyone who is willing to put forth the effort (you wouldn't be here if you weren't willing), can succeed. Just like at any university, professors expect you to do your work, but if you ever have trouble, the professors, teaching assistants, or one of the many undergraduate departments are willing to help, even outside of their normal office hours.
Campus Life and Social LifeOne of the best things about UT-Austin is that there's always something to do. One of the worst things about UT-Austin is that there's always something to do. Whether it's a Saturday night or the middle of dead week, you're sure to find something to do if you want. But, that's not always bad. The sports are another thing that make the university so great. Every baseball, basketball, and especially football season, you see the Horns in the hunt. Plus, conveniently located is the infamous sixth street. And don't worry about drinking and driving, the free e-bus, which are located near many student housings will be happy to do the driving. BUT, once you're on sixth street, watch out the cops on every corner.

AcademicsThe business school is impeccable. Business ace Red McCombs graduated from here. It's probably one the best schools at the University. The Communications school is pretty good and so is the nanotechnology program, for which they are currently constructing a new building. But of course, even though this is a good school, it doesn't mean it's easy. If you plan on going to college just to satisfy your parents, this probably isn't the best school to coast through. Also, most, if not all of your grade make-up per class consists of exams.
Student BodyUT-Austin has to have one of the most diversified student bodies in the country. There really is no "typical" student here. Many students come from across the world; including Japan, Europe, Africa, and Central/South America. You may have no idea these other people are here unless you venture outside your normal group of friends and join clubs and participate in other activities.
In Closing...Even though the school is a great bargain, off-campus housing can be a little pricey if you aren't careful. If you plan on living off campus, make sure you find something that suits you. UT-Austin is a strict school in an academic sense. You need to learn to be on point when you come, but in the long run it really helps you in life. Some professors may seem a little unforgiving but in reality, you get all the chances you need to succeed in each one of your classes. Basically, UT-Austin offers a near Ivy League education for five times less the cost.
