Don't Need to Drink to Have Fun

Rating: 1/5 (25 ratings)
Introduction
My hometown was only 5,000 people, compared to UT which has 50,000 people which is 10 times bigger than my hometown.

Campus Life and Social Life
The stadium is packed in the football games. Mostly everyone who comes to this school is big football fans. A lot of the students are big Longhorn fans. Each year I get student tickets. This way I don’t have to worry about standing in line to try to get tickets. My tickets are automatic. You definitely know when it’s a game. There’s burnt orange everywhere, tailgates, every single spot you turn around, there’s a tailgate. You can’t go anywhere without a tailgate game days. People really get into the football games. People love UT sports. They back football especially over any other sport.

Academics
I’m doing African-American studies because living in Texas, you really don’t learn a lot about your history as an African-American. So that’s been great coming to UT and having A-A studies classes that I could take instead of just regular history classes. A government class can be anywhere from 50 people to 300 people, just depending on what class you get in, what time of the day the class is that you pick. A-A studies classes aren’t as big as the government class, which is on average, anywhere from 75-100 students per class as freshmen.

Student Body
There’s so much you can do in Austin without drinking. There’s Pace Ben Park which you can go and go cliff diving. There’s Town Lake, which is right down the street. You can go kayaking. If you’re into water sports, live music. There’s a concert I go in, in Austin. Every weekend, literally. Maybe 3-4 times a week. You can go downtown to a club and get in and have fun and still don’t have to drink.

In Closing...
I feel like there’s a lot of people who have religious upbringings or backgrounds, but when they come to college, they don’t really, they don’t practice their religion as much as they did when they were younger. They use this time to really grow and find out who they are.
