Plenty of Student Groups

Rating: 3/5 (20 ratings)
Introduction
This is the best state school around here for like miles and miles.

Campus Life and Social Life
There are tons of campus groups. The Greek type, regular student organizations, and school-based organizations like Engineering Councils. They range from being 10 people to 500 people. There’s so many activities, every day, you can find something to do. There’s no problem with that. There’s campus-wide emails that go out every now and then just detailing a week’s worth of activities sometimes. There’s no way you can possibly be bored and if you miss out on this opportunity, it’s just your own fault for not going out and discovering all the different activities.

Academics
There’s around 60 hours of general requirements that everybody has to take. It’s a lot of stuff, but it gives a good foundation into more than just what you want to specialize in. You have to take 2 histories 2 governments, English, writing components, Sciences—it depends on what field you are some are more specific. Liberal arts you can take like 50 different kinds of sciences and get away with it. They gear it towards non-majors like you won’t be taking the same math as say like an engineer does if you’re in liberal arts. Most of the time, it will be over 100. Most of the general classes, lower division stuff 200 maybe, even 300 sometimes. You’ll find classes that are all auditorium-based. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll take like. There are a few classes, quite a few classes that are smaller. Language classes especially.

Student Body
UT, I think the stats are…It’s still 60% White. Which is pretty good, 40% others. There is so much diversity, it is a 50 thousand-student campus. You’ll find your group if you are Korean, you’ll find a Korean group, if you’re Hindu you’ll find your Hindu group. It’s sort of sometimes bad that way and sometimes a good thing. That sort of diversity…it gives you so much to interact and find your own identity, but at the same time, it’s sort of, it will sort of isolate you for others around your other communities around here. I’m going to encourage the freshmen to try to branch out like I did just to like get around and see just how amazing and how many different kinds of people there are on this kind of campus at UT.

In Closing...
I choose to avoid parties because I’m not a drinker anyway and I went to 2 parties when I first came here, check it out, you know. It wasn’t the most enlightening experience. You just see these people getting drunk, I mean, I don’t find any joy in that. I mean there’s a lot of girls that go there, but I don’t know, I found a girlfriend without going to a party and if you don’t like to drink, you don’t have to drink, there’s tons of other stuff to do without drinking. For the most part I think most of the people here just hang out. When they have nothing to do on Friday, Saturday nights, they just hang out with some friends, watch a movie or something, you can go bowling right on campus.
